Anthony Martial won Man of the Match vs Manchester City despite leg injury

Anthony Martial was at his best as Manchester United beat Manchester City.

The Frenchman scored the opening goal, getting on the end of a clever Bruno Fernandes free-kick to volley past Ederson.

Scott McTominay then doubled United's lead in injury time thanks to another howler from the City goalkeeper.

It was Martial's blistering performance that earned Man of the Match as he continued his run of three goals in his last five league games. Roy Keane speculated afterwards that Odion Ighalo's arrival has got a reaction out of his teammate, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won't be too worried about the cause of his revival.

When he's on his a-game, the 24-year-old can be spectacular. His critics might argue that isn't often enough, but on his current form he is putting United in a great position to chase down the Champions League spots.

Granted, he had a helping hand from Ederson for his goal. However, he also got on the wrong side of the Brazilian when the two went for the same ball and Martial ended up crashing into the post.

It looked nasty at the time and he received treatment from United's medical staff.

Instead, he stayed on and carried on contributing to arguably United's biggest win of the season. The scenes around Old Trafford certainly made it feel like that, anyway.

After the game, Martial took to Instagram to show the damage from that incident and his story revealed a nasty cut to his leg.

Fittingly though, it ended with him holding the Man of the Match award.

Full credit to him for playing through the pain and persevering through what must have been a difficult second half.

Whether he played or doesn't play makes not much difference. The team had been playing without him & the players are prepared to be playing without him.

Tahith Chong to sign new £30,000-a-week deal as Manchester United see off interest to secure 20-year-old winger's future at Old Trafford

Tahith Chong is signing a new long term contract with Manchester United.

The 20-year old winger is shunning offers from Inter Milan, Barcelona and Juventus to commit his future to United after months of speculation.

The Holland U21 international joined United from Feyenoord and rejected Chelsea in the process.

He has made ten first team appearances this season and has been convinced he has a career pathway at Old Trafford.

Though his agents had fielded plenty of interest, notably from Italian side Inter, he is due to agree terms on a new United contract understood to be worth an initial £30,000 a week.

United are still in discussions over a new deal for Angel Gomes and are leading the chase for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho who is valued at £100m.

Man Utd squad numbers Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish could wear after transfer deals

Manchester United want to seal transfer deals for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa's Jack Grealish.

Manchester United may have won six of their last nine matches but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t resting on his laurels. And, with the summer transfer window edging closer, the Red Devils are eyeing transfer deals for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United boss Solskjaer wanted to sign Sancho last summer but, having failed to qualify for the Champions League, the club missed out.

The England international has since flourished in the Bundesliga, scoring 14 goals and registering 14 assists in the top flight this season.

United feel Sancho has the potential to solve their right-wing woes, with the club struggling in that position ever since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Real Madrid in 2009.

And they’re ready to make him the poster boy of Solskjaer’s rebuild in order to fend off Chelsea for his signature.

It’s been claimed that Sancho favours a move to United, too, despite links to the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid.

And United also want to add Grealish to their ranks this coming transfer window.

The 24-year-old has been a shining light amid a tricky campaign for Aston Villa in the Premier League, scoring six goals and racking up seven assists.

And United also want to sign him.

Manchester City are big admirers of Grealish and may try and bring him to the Etihad Stadium as a replacement for David Silva, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

But United, again, are considered frontrunners in the race for the playmaker’s signature.

Ok... Send him out on loan for 1-2 seasons then re-evaluate his growth as a player.
