No chance yet, I’m at Akureyri now... will be here for the next 5 days.
Staying over at hamragaroar campsite. The wind is so strong. Scary.

Our glaciers walk has been cancel last min due to covid-19.

Any car rental companies to recommend?
Currently looking at bluecarrental, reviews seem to be the best so far

Good luck!
I rented a Toyota RAV4 4x4 with Bluecarrental, as I believe they are the only one who offers zero-excess coverage. I got a 30% discount when I booked in Dec 2019.

After driving for 1 week from Reykjavik to Vik to Höfn to Akureyri, I really strongly recommend getting a 4x4 in winter. Seen so many cars being stuck in the snow and I myself have helped a few to push their car out.

Wow you must be really daring to rent a campervan in winter, I hope you are not planning to drive to Eastern side of Iceland.

The winds there are extremely crazy, even in our RAV4 we can feel the car shaking when we drive very slowly.

Nice!

Super envious, I have shelved my travel plans due to the travel advisory and uncertainty, was really looking forward to this trip

I stayed in Akureyri for 5 days, spent daytime driving all around to scout for potential locations for me to park my car and camp there. As you know Iceland roads are narrow...

Last night I drove from Akureyri to Grenivík around 8pm when the skies are still blue, camped till 11pm.

Going to hunt for aurora tonight, tomorrow will be heading off to western Iceland.

Aurora forecast KP3 on Thursday night!

You still at Eastern Iceland? Looks like weather is not in your favor, thick clouds all over Iceland today.
