I have a last minute work trip to Germany probably in late September or early November.

Would be heading Wilnsdorf for work first 3 days, then solo for next 5-6 days. I have not booked my air ticket. I am open to flying back from Munich if it will be more convenient. Else I just explore around outskirts of Frankfurt.

I read there isn't much to see in Frankfurt itself, except the financial center. I love nature and trekking. I read bro evilerniex Germany Trip report and felt the Lake Titisee was very nice place to take a stroll.

Anyone here could recommend an itinerary, maybe just a sketchy one, with places of interest etc.

Hope to go visit Black Forest to try the original black forest cake :s13: But it looks really far from Frankfurt. Should I purchase the Rail Pass?

Welcome all recommendations and advise! Thank you guys!

Burg Eltz.

Probably requires a car though.

If you're into wine, the Moselle river is the place to go, between Koblenz and Trier. Best Rieslings in the world.

Beautiful scenery as well, and lots of trekking paths, I'm sure.

Thank you for your suggestions. I do not intend to rent a car, taking public transport all the way.

Visit to nature/lakes, museums, architecture/castles and UNESCO World Heritage Sites will be interesting.

I have decided my itinerary would be:

Frankfurt -> Wilnsdorf - Work

Start of 5-6 days solo journey
Cologne
- Cologne cathedral

Heidelberg
- Heidelberg Castle

Nuremburg
- Nazi Documentation Center

Frankfurt
- Outlets? Shopping..

Back to SG

Any hotels or B&B to recommend at these places? Budget is about S$100++/night

I rent a car everywhere I go, so I'm afraid I cannot help you much here. My impression is that public transport is difficult to smaller villages and trekking routes, but I could be wrong. You may end up having to resort to expensive day trips to get to the more remote places.

Actually renting a car is really more convenient, or at least a motorbike. The public transport system there is not as well connected to the country like here.. Plus renting a car for 5 days probably give you a lot more freedom for the 5 days

Heidelberg and Nuremburg are very nice places to visit. Convenient for train. Autumn is a beautiful period to visit - not too crowded, not too cold and leaves started to turn red. Frankfurt - Nuremburg - Heidelberg - Airport.

Will rule out renting car this time as I do not feel comfortable driving in foreign land. So only railway and buses. Unless it is places like NZ south islandn which I will drive next year on my honeymoon :)

I do not mind walking 10-20km every day should the place be best explored on feet! Heidelberg and Nuremburg looks good. I probably should not stretch too many places in that short duration..

Question: If going early Nov, will I be able to experience Christmas Market?

Ya, don't be too ambitious. For 5 days, Heidelberg and Nuremburg is about right. U can squeeze in Warzburg if you want (probably a stop-over).

The original Black Forest cake contains rum and cherry. The original recipe is said to be from Café Schaefer in Triberg. Most Singapore version is no rum and blueberry :s22:!! We really missed it.

I quite like Heidelberg too.

For 5 to 6 days, I would do 2 to 3 cities. Take time to enjoy the city/town instead of rushing to all the tourist attractions.

I spent a day in Heidelberg and didn't get to go to the castle and most of the churches. I would definitely head back to Heidelberg again.

I quite like Mannheim too. One day is sufficient though.

I'll be going in early mid October till late December. For work mostly, and the last week or so for travels.
