I used to wear contact lenses before but stopped wearing for more than 3 years. Now, would like to try out the contact lenses. I signed up for a trial wear for 1-day Acuvue True Eye. I need to go for eye test at Capitol Optical in Tampines. Roughly what needs to be done? Understand that I need to pay for the eye test, any idea how much and other hidden costs? Do I need to go back there again after the trial wear? What happens after that? Thanx in advance

I see, thanks for the info
thought it was just getting the right degree/power and selecting the brand

didn't realize there's so much technicalities involved, seems there's alot of fitting and followup to do
Its of course your choice. most people do without a fitting and live with it. If you're comfortable with it. Which means no on paper medical records at the practice. Something goes wrong with it, you don't have a case to fight for.

all these trials are nonsense. How can one sign up for a trial of a particular lens without knowing if the lenses suit them or not. the right way a competent and ethical optometrist should do is to try different lenses on your eye and observe if the lens is suitable for your eye or not. Not by signing up for a free trial like what the commercialised lens company do all the time. Thats not ethical and irresponsible. its of course again your choice.

Has anyone bought contact lens from US stores? Can they be shipped to singapore without issues? Will they detain my contact lens?

Under the medical devices act. One without licence to import cannot import any medical devices. U can try ur luck lo. And its not safe for yourself also because you won't know if the lens fits your eye surface or not

Not sure if i want to take the risk, cause im ordering 2x90 dailies, not worth if it gets confiscated. I'm ordering the exact same lens I have, following the same prescriptions, so i guess its rather safe. thanks for your reply.

Its not only the prescription power. Its the lens fitting. Your optometrist must confirm the lens fit every time he/she dispenses them to you. Nothing is forever, including the cornea. Oh yea. Your eye health must also be checked before it can be prescribed.

I'm planning to have a go on contact lenses due to my activities. Mostly I'll be doing sports like basketball, rugby in the future and my usual workout every week. I find it cumbersome to wear glasses especially when playing basketball, it'd slip off anytime or when I get into physical contact it'll just fly. What's your say on this? Should I get contact lenses or stick with glasses? And if I were to take contact lenses, can I just go the nearest optometrist those at plazas?
Thanks a lot!

of cos u can. just get some one to find the right contact lens for you. Do not buy over the counter without anyone putting diffrent brands of lenses and looking at the lens with a microscope.

Just tried the Acuvue Trueye today. I never sign up for trial wear, just went for free eye check and bought the 15 days pack for $55. So far like the feeling on the eyes. I am going for runs wearing it later....

Red face RGP Lenses

My wife have been using RGP for 6 years now. Previously she had it done in Malaysia and she needs a new replacement now. Any recommendations to where she can go to fix up a new pair? Will need some one professional test and do fittings as well.

Hi

I just opened my box of acuvue moist astigmatism lenses and I find my eyes drying out very fast like every 2 hours need to rewet. When I was 18 and using acuvue moist 1 i could go 4 hrs or more without rewetting and wearing the lenses for up to 12 hours a day.

Now I am 30 this year and am finding it very dry and uncomfortable to reach 8 hours.

Just read that cornea size and fit change every time

How fast do they change? Can they change in a month's time?

I am not a frequent lens wearer and it took a while to finish my Acuvue TrueEye non toric lenses as there were about 10 pairs left.

I have different degrees you see and have undergone an operation for keractocunus in July 2009 in the left eye but the operation helped slightly did not fully restore the vision I still see a slight double vision on the lower half of my left field of vision in my left eye

Could this be because the optometrist at Queentown Shopping Centre prescribed a degree lower than my spectacles ?

A few optometrists besides the Queenstown Shopping centre have said that my eye degrees do not match my spectacles now but I feel so comfortable in my spectacles.

I was prescribed with the following lenses

Left Eye - BC 8.5 Dia 14.5 D -2.50 CYL/Axis -1.75 100
Right Eye - BC 8.5 Dia 14.5 D -4.25 CYL /Axis -0.75 120

Do I have to throw the other 29 lenses away or can I do an refund with the Optometrist if I kept the receipt.

Thanks for advise.

Anyway logically when wearing contact lenses on a daily basis to work the lenses have to be in for at least 10 hours because if you start work at 8.30am and need to have the lenses in by 7.45am.

You can probably only reach home at 6.30pm at the earliest. Making it close to 11 hours that the lenses need to be worn.

If not I guess I will just stick to wearing lenses for special occasions or on weekends only.
