Hi bros, looking to get a haircut this afternoon. Somewhere in the east or in town.

Any recommendations? Will very likely be a walk in since it's already too late to make an appointment. Budget around ~$50.

I'm thinking about heading to town and trying my luck there. See if I can get any one of the stylists which are commonly mentioned in this thread such as Jonathan @Kenaris or Joel @Lacoco. Any others I might be able to try?
Bump for suggestions. Heading down soon. Any salons at FEP worth trying?

exactly. really liked it at first. but right after the haircut as I was walking around I realized there are really really many dudes w similar haircuts. Pretty almost an instant regret. Been about a month and a half now. The top block is reeeeally long, and I'm growing the sides out. Sides are like what you said, sticking out.

Quite a bitch..
Used to cut like this since 2 years ago after
seeing how classic it looks on the runway models...
but i got very lazy to style and just let it hanging down..
in the end becomes like this :

It gets very hot n untidy so i'll tie it up sometimes..
and had to do regular trimming to the sides...
Finally decided to snip everything off due to the hot weather
Now look like nsf

And ya its really 1 of the hottest hairstyle now..
can see many dudes spotting the same hairstyle esp in town nowadays...
(Not including all the zangief hairstyle)

I did cut like this once but it grew out nice because the top was quite short also. But now the disparity in length (I grew it out for half a year already) is so obvious and I look like I badly need a haircut. I walk around town I see guys with the same topknot, AWKWARD PENGUIN! Yeah, what are you doing to make it look less unkempt? I usually just slick back now, letting it hang out is quite ugly imo.
What does the back look like for u two guys?

Some ppl totally buzzed off the back, so only tt ponytail thing going on top. You all leh?

Haha!! Now my hair is long but not that long, almost like that. Since my hair isn't so easy to style like the caucasians, my flipping hair likes to bounce out awkwardly at the parting, I don't know why. It's quite frustrating to style at the same time. I think I do need to thin it out because my hair is getting itchy already, super thick.

At first it was down to my neck area but it took too long to grow to tie it up so I shaved it a little higher at the back center of the skull area. I've seen guys who shaved all the way up, a bit too much for me.

Yeah, I tie everything up. The higher you shave, the easier it is to tie a top knot. The lower part is a b*tch to grow out. It took me a good 3 months to tie everything in one shot. Here's a tip, use a small amount of gel to control the flyaway and shorter hair. I also wet my hair a bit and then tie, makes it easier too.

mine was just at the back center of skull area...
my under cut was not that high.

imho i think one needs to have very sharp features to
pull off a very high shaved + ponytail/bun...
i saw a lot of failed attempts and they seriously looks like ne zhar

i got rather small eyes n short side burns so i don't dare to try

Waiit a min..what is this ponytail thing you guys are talking about? Haha I was actually referring to something more like this:

Nicknack, would I be able to acheive the same results with those neighbourhood barbers? I think my main concern is whether they can do a good job with the top instead of making my look like an nsf/sec school kid haha. Anw, thanks everyone for your replies!

If you want to trim the top regularly, I suggest you to go to a familiar hairdresser who knows what you like. I've never cut the top and only trimmed the sides.

@nicknack

haha bro I don't have a ponytail, my hair's actually like the pic the-walrus posted.
first impressions on the cut by my friends were like 'wah damn beng sia'

but I believe that as long as you don't dress/act/look like one it's totally fine.

my hair's at the stage where things are kind of starting to look more natural, where in the sides are slowly blending in w the top.

gonna go for a cut in 2weeks, shorten the top to grow my hair out evenly

I very scare of barbers cos i remember last time when i was young,
the barbers always tend to overdo things...

In the end it might turn out like this

I need recommendation for hair wax/clay and a hair spray. Something that isn't too damaging to the hair as compared to it's competitors. Currently I'm using Sebastian Craft Clay + Lucido Hairspray (pink one). Im looking for something matte and non re-moldable. The craft clay gives me this shine in my hair that I'm not a fan of too. Lucido gave me mixed results. Sometimes can hold, sometimes can't, I have no idea why too.
