paiseh.. I thought talking about 90s hairstyles and not about the video in particular. The video part too is representative of 90s: Nirvana, Pearl Jam genre, but not so common in SG due to a big obstacle called NS.

If you have problems with volume then use sss before you style with pomade?
no SSS no talk leh bro
Obviously there's a difference between water based (gel) pomade and oil based pomade, ESP in sg. Given this hot climate, oil based would melt throughout the day thus making your hair flop. If you wana use water based (gel) pomade, i suggest u blowdry your hair with salt spray and use minimal amount of the water based (gel) pomade, since according to you, it will give you the most hold (cos it hardens up).

One thing, no point using pre styler with water based pomade as well as both roughly contain the same ingredients.
Blow dry. Then use a wax or clay instead of a pomade. Like others have mentioned, By Vilian Dynamite Clay is affordable and good.

If you want volume and high shine, it's kinda difficult in this weather.
Where can I find sea salt spray and dynamite clay? I do blowdry my hair before styling and I know that the nature of pomades is not to harden up, plus pomades don't really work well in our weather.

http://theprettyjerk.com/
http://hairbroducts.sg/index.php
http://www.newman.sg/

All the above sites have a variation of a sea salt spray and a clay or wax to suit your needs.

Btw, for the Hanz De Fuko line, I only found their Quicksand to work. The rest is a waste of money.

I love quicksand!

Do you have a personal recommendation for sea salt spray? I apologise because I'm sure it's been mentioned plenty of times but there's too many to wrap my head around

You mean after I've styled my hair? Nope. I've even gone to the extent of putting hairspray after I'm done styling, but it doesn't help much.

what's your routine?
1. Shampoo hair and rinse off
2. Towel dry
3. Blow dry
4. Apply pomade (any of those that I listed earlier)
5. Optional - Apply hairspray
6. Looks good in the mirror
7. Walk out of house, hair looks like a mess

The only reason that I use Imperial gel pomade is because it's really just a gel, and holds everything in place. Other pomades just lose their hold after a short while.

Imperial Gel pomade is definitely "my go to pomade" if I want an pomp that stay the same way the whole day, like how I style it the 1st time. Add a little water to do any minor adjustments through the day...

No no I mean during the normal process of blowdrying. Best if u hold ur hair in the position u want it to be in as u blow. And keep going after its dry until it more or less stays there. The andrewdoeshair method as introduced by djflame kor kor
