Dual Universe is a continuous Single-Shard sandbox MMORPG taking place in a multi-planets Sci-Fi world with player-driven in-game economy, politics, trade and warfare. Players can freely modify the world by creating structures, space ships or orbital stations, giving birth to empires and civilizations.

Dear backers,

Many of you wanted to see what multiplayer building looks like in this early, pre-alpha stage. So here's a glimpse of what happens when three players get together to make a single-player spaceship!

Looking back over earlier videos we didn’t like the look of the "Nanoformer ray" that we had been using, so we decided to remove it. That’s why you don’t see one here. We’re working on an improved ray and it will be implemented in the near future. Also, please keep in mind the spaceship is being built much faster than will be possible at the official release. For the purposes of the demo the players have unlimited resources, instant voxel deployment, simplified requirements for a flyable spaceship, and the construct is editable by anyone by default as if they were all given the adequate rights. At official release, building a spaceship will be something more challenging and requiring a fair amount of time.

This video was made at "Vincent's secret lair" on our Test Server. In the near future we will release another short video to show what building looks like when a player wants to expand their subterranean base. We also have a "Character Customization" update we’ll share before the end of the week, as well as the last part of the AMA event! ;)

We hope this preview has answered some questions you had about Multiplayer Building, and if you have some that remain unanswered, don't hesitate to post below the update, in the comments! As always, we are eager to have your feedback on the topic :)

Now, let’s go and dive a bit more into how things will work with combat, and hopefully answer some of the questions we have seen on that aspect of the game.

There are basically two types of combat in Dual Universe: Avatar vs Avatar (AvA) and Construct vs Construct (CvC). When we say “Construct”, we actually mean any construction that the players can build, so that includes Ship vs Ship, but also Ship vs Outpost, or City vs Vehicle, or whatever you can build vs whatever else. The notion of spaceship does not really exist in the game in itself, it is what you make of a construct that effectively turns it into what everybody will call “a ship”. We will see in the following, as soon as we introduce CvC in the game (which is currently part of the next stretch goal), we immediately have AvC or CvA as a side effect. So effectively, there are four different types of combat!

As a word of caution, keep in mind that the following are our intentions about how to implement these game mechanics. This may evolve due to your feedback, unforeseen technical constraints, or issues that could emerge during alpha or beta. However, if things do change, we will always talk transparently about the reason why, and explain how we plan to resolve the issue.

My first thought as the teaser was introduced was - No Man's Sky? :s13:

Is No Man's Sky really that bad? I read some comments on Steam and the game is described as an epic failure.

Let's hope this game does not follow that direction.
