Visited JP today. Quite alot of people. Don't know if I managed to catch some of the bros here in the shop. Haha. If you saw a guy wearing a green tshirt and jeans, that's me
Booking an appointment was easy. They're quick to reply emails. Before heading them down, I read many positive reviews here and went there with some expectations. All in all, I must say I was impressed. Casey gave me a breakdown on the diamond education. He made it easy for me to understand. Later I learnt that he is one of the partners in JP from his namecard.
I'm quite set on getting the Octagon. Its very very sparkly.. as in VERY sparkly.. One thing I didn't expect at all was that Casey brought out the diamonds to show me in different areas. He explained shop lights are very biased and wanted to prove how the diamond will perform outside. He showed the diamond outside the shop, inside the shopping mall area and inside the Cheers store next door.. Yes.. we actually viewed the diamond inside the convenience store. LOL.
This is the diamond when we viewed it inside the shopping mall building (near the security guard table). Wanted to take some photos inside Cheers but it was too cramp with other people..
I'm considering between the plain setting or with side diamonds. Casey placed some small diamonds next to the Octagon. I'm just worried if this will take the attention away from the main diamond. Also I read that sometimes it will make the main diamond look smaller. Is this true? On the photo now, I think it looks nice and ok. Though it might look different when done up on a ring. Do you think I should add the side diamonds? Or just one main stone better?
If TLDR: JP 10/10. A must go to place if you're looking for a diamond ring.
Edit: Anybody got kang tao for led ring box mah?

Nope. your travel small will to go thru the x ray machine... i had the bag with me all the time. dont keep the ring / ring box in pocket. later lost or your wtb might find out.
i miss the ring now. sent for re-sizing . 5 weeks wait
Thanks! It took me alot of tries to even get a clear photo. I used a Samsung phone. I tried using Iphone too but its not as clear.
Need to keep focusing the camera while zooming it in. The diamond is damn sparkly so it'll make the camera going out of focus. Keep trying until you get a clear picture.
I took out the diamond from the clip to take more photos with my hp. It'll probably be better if you have a DSLR camera.
These were taken in my house under a spotlight.

This was taken outside under sunlight. The diamond gets very colorful and glaring. Very hard to take photo but this was my best shot.

This is on my table under the desk lamp.

Hi all, can I just walk into jannpaul or must set appointment? Need to find an opportunity to sneak away from gf without her knowing.. so its hard to fix a time with them.
Just an update. I went down to JP and spoke to Jann and was given the revised 3D renders within 2 days. I'm impressed with their efficiency and their service is really superb. The fact that Jann understood what I want and revised the renders without missing a point is very assuring.

you mean the ring in the bag, and the bag go thru xray machine?
I took a small octagon (0.4x) I wonder if it is obvious on her finger. that's what my budget could stretch.

Plain is more traditional and will make your diamond stand out more. Side diamonds is nice too and affects the whole look of the ring. Mine is an Octagon too and I opted for side diamonds. The side diamonds you are using are all the same size. You can consider to make them from big to small towards the diamond to have that thick to thin effect. That's what I did. It still highlights the centre diamond nicely.
As cliché as it sounds, plain/side diamonds boils down to personal preference. Imo I think a classic solitaire setting looks good plain, and will definitely complement a unique octagon diamond.
For my case I went with side diamonds to complement a more complicated verragio-ish filigree/milgrain setting I chose for my round super ideal.![]()
Thanks for the tips guys. I'm more inclined to the side diamonds. I think it will make the ring look more different and swee. haha. Can share the photos of your ring design? I'm trying to get some inspirationIf not convenient, can pm me.

do u think I should bring my gf down to choose the diamond and design?
I am intending to do a surprise proposal to her but I worry the design I choose might not be to her liking.

I chose mine by myself. Can try choosing yourself first and if really cannot decide on one, then try to hint to her or go window shopping. The JP staff are experience too and will give you good advice.
I chose mine, too! I guess you should consider whether your gf will want to be completely surprised, or have a say in the ring as well. She can design the ring and then you collect and do a surprise proposal also mah![]()
