Most hobbies tend to make one spend. Are there hobbies where one can make money and hopefully, become rich? Instead of hobbies -> expenses, are there hobbies -> income?

If you are talking about hobbies that you spend a little now and future make money, then there is a lot.

However, if you are talking about hobbies that you don't spend even a single cent now and can still make money, then no.

Coin and paper money collecting, stamp collection, comic collecting, Toys collecting and many other hobbies can make money...But only do so if you have a genuine interest in the items you are collecting...

Logically speaking, you can become a public speaker without spending a single cent.

However, I doubt there is a speaker who becomes successful without spending any money.

You can go to USA without spending a single cent, just swim across the Pacific Ocean. But, how many people can do that.

Don't you still have to spend money to buy those item? So they are not free.

when your hobby is able to make you a lot of money.. it stops being a hobby, more like a full time job.

Take the game Dota 2 for example, there is a major competition every year where the first prize is close to $1 million US for each person. few hundred Ks for 2nd and 3rd. notch bad.

But when you reach that kind of level, playing the game doesn't feel like a hobby anymore. Because you would have to do it even when you don't feel like it. You are unable to say like today I have no time, I wish to stop playing - no! you got to make time out for it even when you just don't feel like doing it.

Heard of people that are interested in photography, shell out money for the gear, then move on to do freelance jobs with those skills. I think the important thing is not to get into something because you heard it can make money, but to develop your skills and knowledge even in something that seems unprofitable, because if you can reach a high level, something might turn up. And even if it doesn't at least you have had an enjoyable journey.

On the other hand, if your hobby is driving, there is now Uber/Grab :D
