Erm. India's mi phones are all on global ROM.

As long as India release mi max, it means mi max will have global ROM...

Does that mean for the export set that we buy now can get auto update officially via the phone itself and don't have to worry about rooting etc

I believe the rom of the export phone has been modified, i don think you will receive auto update.

the first batch of 32gb I got from simder n first batch of 64 from newstar all comes with official china roms so update no prob...

hmm for mine frm nse, it comes with modified rom whereby it cant be update via updater..

Do a search in this thread, someone post the method to flash to official rom. Or simply request unlock boot loader from Xiaomi.
Once your phone is unlocked then is very easy to flash your device.

yes, did a search n thers a no of methods which is bit confusing.. after unlocking, what method is use to flash?

Go page 82 and follow guide. Mine had the same issue.

- flash_all.bat (dont see tis file, closest file i see is flash_all)
-after choosing this file, theres no option to press "ok"

u encounter tis?

the ppl who got code but unable to unlock is a simple solution , i had this and was going crazy when i was not able to unlock , there is a guide where actually on the phone and on the computer you need to login to the mi account with your phonenumber not email or account ID , then only can unlock .
