There's no need to unlock bootloader if using EDL mode using my method. But as usual, I will recommend you to follow the safe official way to flash it, i.e. the unlock bootloader method.

Sent from Xiaomi MI MAX using GAGT

I can confirm Bro DragonGuy steps work without the need for unlock code cos I just did it last night. Thanks for the detail steps Bro DragonGuy

just bought one online, was hoping to get store to help install miui 8 global eval rom since i'm a noob.

To unlock I will need to register online and enter my mobile phone details and wait for a week? Assuming all goes well, can I get the stall to do it for me after?

Thanks

Register online and choose Singapore as locale, now only takes about 2 days to aprove.
I doubt the seller will do for you after that.
Once the device is unlock, download the dev rom and miflash to flash. Only takes 5 mins to flash.

Done flashing le :)
Took less than 200 sec, i thought something went wrong=.= some say this part is scary. I think the rebooting part more scary....
the initial reboot took about 5 min and during the reboot, the phone only show MI logo and loading bar. The loading bar keeps loading but nothing happen. At first i thought die liao la now phone stuck in startup but heng after 5 min everything work perfectly. :)

I thought it is not necessary to have the bootloader unlocked to miflash different official MIUI rom?

Just asking as my Redmi Note 3 can use miflash to flash anything official with a locked bootloader in EDL mode with no issue at all.

Yes for Redmi note 3 and Mi Max.
No for Mi 5 as Xiaomi removed EDL mode in the recent rom update.

if using EDL mode, no need unlock but you never know when Xiaomi decide to remove EDL mode for mi Max. It is better to get your device unlock so don't have to worry anymore.

Just to confirm does it means there is no need to unlock when installing new miui 8 (after it is release)?

Does unlocking bootloader void warranty?

No idea, I using export set so no warranty anyway. You can lock the bootloader after unlocking.

Ic.

I just went to apply for unlocking.

Now just waiting for public beta miui 8 to be available before i flash from my modified global rom.

Hope that there will not be any data loss to flash from modified global ROM to public beta miui 8 to stable miui 8...

When you flash the rom using miflash, select flash all except storage or flash all except data and storage. You may able to keep your data.

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/tech...max-smartphone-launch-miui-8-os-expected.html

In addition, the first one million customers will get free 3 months of movies from Hungama and one year of free music too. The smartphones will go on sale starting July 6 on mi.com; all other partner platforms including Paytm will start selling it from July 13.

Apart from the smartphone, the company's latest OS offering, MIUI 8, was also announced today. In case you were wondering when it will be available for download, the public beta version will be rolled out on 11 July and a subsequent stable version will be updated on July 16.

I thought India will be launching mi max with miui 8 global ROM?

I don't think they will sell indian version with Miui8 Global BETA ROM on 6 July. Most probably is Miui7 Global Final ROM.
