As someone mentioned earlier, even external USB via OTG adapter needs to be in FAT32 format. This is one thing I disliked about Xiaomi devices. Last time used the Redmi 1 already had this issue. All my previous Androids (Samsung, Asus, Sony) have no issue read/write onto exFAT microSD cards or USB storage.

yes, battery quite removable. But xm def. won't sell them and 3rd party replacement batteries will only boast 6000mah, but only 3000mah with flickering power

Yupz, no way around it. Just get the bigger 64G/128G Mi Max if you need to store large sized media files (>4GB) on the phone. Xiaomi is really behind in supporting exFAT. FAT32 is damn ancient file system. I think they just not willing to pay the $$$ for it.

Actually you can use the app Nexus Media Importer to read exFat/NTFS formatted OTG USB drives.

Do take note that this case will have cover for the 3.5 mm audio jack and the micro USB port also. If you don't want them, just cut them off.
