Well, i did owned before xfire R9 Fury X but not say that im against on dual card setup either.
The reason why i did a swap to a single 1080 instead of in favor of 2 fury X is because of the amount of power consumption and total heat output. Apart from that, i'm not getting that much extra performance for the games i played. Scaling was an issue, and definitely not worth playing with frame variance all over the place.
Although i admit that dual cards looks great in custom water cooling setup. But honestly, not practical anymore.
Games even in favor of GCN architecture doesn't seems to give more performance either. Such as Hitman 2016, adding a second card in Xfire adds additional average 15fps. Totally not worth adding the second card and drawing up to 7xx Watts. 7xx Watts does make my room extremely warm.
I was very disappointed by it. So came in the GTX 1080, looking at it, it is 35% faster than 980ti, and 45% faster than Fury X. So if GTX 1080 can be that fast, and not too far from dual Fury X, then why not? I'm guaranteed with that performance, while dual Fury X dont guaranty me a proper gain in performance. Yet alone the support for new games is rubbish.
Jittery screen, micro stutters, and lastly DX12 support for multiple cards gaming setup is as good as belongs to the drain.
I was contemplating, till then, MSI launched the EK version of it. For that, i was sold by it. Came with local warranty, and the price that i gotten is good enough.
Do i have any regrets? Not that i know of now, cause i could not use the card till BP send over my last fitting. But on paper, i do know im pulling off around 3xx Watts off the wall and getting somewhere near a dual Fury X card performance and also getting a cooler option than dual Fury X.
