Isolated case.

:)

Yes, Samsung say the same to N7 too at early state of problem. Think the news also mention Xiaomi has compensated the user and also ask a 3rd party company to investigate.

There are some important steps that you need to do.

I followed this :

http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

But you must take note of 2 things :

1. Install MiFlash using the Default folder which they specified
2. All the folder's name CANNOT have space

This are the 2 things which I corrected and managed to complete the flash.

Ok, I think I figured something out. I ran fastboot edl then MiFlash but still it couldn't detect my phone. Based on the steps in the link, the problem seems to be that I can't turn on USB debugging in my phone (I've been locked out) before flashing it. How to proceed like this? Or do I need to take this back to the shop?

Are you using miflash beta? The official miflash and miflash beta are 2 diff program. Miflash is for fastboot mode. Miflash beta is for EDL mode.

Will check again, but I'm on the verge of returning the phone if it doesn't work after this. Hopefully Lazada will take it back. Thanks for the tip.

After using both Max and RMN3 at same time, feel like easier to use the note 3, but Max display is superbly nice ESP games and vids.

I think u just need to install the USB drivers. U can install MI pc suite then plug in ur phone when it's on either fastboot/edl mode. It will auto detect and install the drivers.

If u r using miflash beta, make sure ur phone is in edl mode.

TYVM, but I'm going to try and return the phone first. If really cannot, then I'll try your suggestion. I've had enough of messing around like this. :frus:

Which ROM to use?

Hi all,

I finally managed to order a Mi Max 32GB from Lazada successfully. I suspect previous failed orders were due to Shopback redirection. Somehow Lazada did not like it and failed all verifications. In the end, I had to forgo Shopback cashback.

While waiting for the delivery, I wish to ask a few questions:

1. The phone is purchased from Smartcell Mobile. What is the ROM of the handsets that are sold by Smartcell typically? Miui7 or 8? China ROM or Global ROM?

2. I haven't made up my mind whether to (i) stick with Miui 7 stable (assuming it comes with the phone), (ii) change to Miui 8 Global Stable ROM or (iii) change to Miui 8 Beta Global ROM. I read from this thread that many prefer Miui 8 Beta Global because it has more features and is more stable than "Stable" ROM. However, I also saw some posts mentioning about issues such as Pokemon Go being laggy, Whatsapp message delayed delivery. Are such issues related to Miui 8 Beta or Stable ROM?

3. If i were to change the ROM, I found the link provided in an earlier post in this thread:
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-flash-miui-fastboot-rom-on-mi-max-with-locked-bootloader/

As I'm not a tech-savvy person and this is the 1st time I'm doing such thing, can someone advise if the steps described in the above URL are the simplest, fastest and most idiot proof way of changing ROM, without having to request from Xiaomi a PIN to unlock the phone?

4. When I switched phones last time, I had to install some app to export the contact numbers (do not want to use Google to store contacts), and another app to export all SMS into a backup file. In the new phone, I had to install the same apps to load back contacts and SMS. I also had to install all the apps that I need e.g. Whatsapp one by one in the new phone.

Is there a more efficient way to back up apps, contacts and sms from the old phone and restore in the new phone? Is it called Titanium? As for photos, files and videos, I can easily copy to SD card and bring over, so no issue with these.

Many thanks in advance!

If u are buying from smart cell most properly u will get miui 7 Global Rom and it will auto update to miui 8 stable. No need to worry about flashing. As for app transfer u can use mi mover which can be downloaded from Google playstore.

If the box has english text on it, it will be an indian set with Global ROM. If the box has chinese text on it, they would have flashed it from China to Global ROM. Either way, you're likely to get Global ROM.

yup for the mi max promo at $280+, lazada was losing money like i mentioned earlier in one of my posts.

smartcell said the promotion is by lazada and not by smartcell so lazada actually tops up the balance to smartcell.

Fantastic phone with reasonable pricing and good specs and long battery life. Camera not too bad after some minor edits of pic in instagram. Loving it so much that I'm thinking to get another one just incase the current one dies.

If you are using the 4g+3g features , how do you set SIM 2 on data ?

In the Setting -> SIM cards & mobile networks-> Mobile data (this is switch-on) and further below is "Internet" pointed to SIM 1.

So to use SIM 2 data , is it change the "Internet" to SIM 2?

i'm still trying my utmost to figure out how to squeeze my nano sim card into the slot 1 along with a micro sd card.

Is there some trick to this? Or should I just stick the nano sim into a sim card adapter and put it into slot 2? :s22:
