Just got a new case..

comparing with the frosted matt case i have.. can see the cut out more refined for the new case but the frosted one can cover over the tempered glass so is better in term of protection against dust also. The frosted matt case got cut out for volume and power button which can solve the accidentally pressing of power button while gripping phone... so far for this new case with volume and power button i yet to accidentally press the buttons. The frosted case also has glossy sides which somehow better for grip for phone.

Yeah, got the 'dotted grid effect', but the rainbow effect only appears with fluorescent light.. haha. My house and office use LED so rarely see it :o

Read something about the dotted grid being a result of UV protection layer, dunno how true leh. It's possible it's true for the 'real' thing, but maybe cheap version they just copy the dots without the real effect :s13: Since the source I read said it should also prevent rainbow effect :s13:

Here's the deal with the dots- those dots on the screen are part of a special UV coating that is required for that type of glass, as over time UV radiation will cause the screen to become discolored if that coating was not there. The coating prolongs the protectors life and keeps it looking new.

If your screen is off they are barely noticeable, but with the screen on they are almost non-existent at a normal viewing angle/distance. Only reason you see them is because you know they are there.

--------------

Just got into the office, got more information on the dots in addition to what I stated earlier-

"The dots like a chess in the glass, we called UV handling, this is a kind of high patent technology.

We produced glass before, many customers said the glass would appear rainbow in the screen. This is because between tempered glass and phone glass, there has air and will appear rainbow. The display will become deformed.

Now, all of our glasses are processing by this UV technology. Whatever how long you use, there will not appear rainbow."

XGEAR reached out to me to explain the grid situation. From what I understand, the grid is there because of a special UV coating that is put on the screen protector. If it wasn’t there, the protector would become discolored over time thanks to UV radiation. This coating, which includes that grid, prevents that.
