They might need to check your eyeball so that the lens are optimized properly. Another way is to show them your current specs that suit you well and ask them to replicate the power and lens design.

I'm guessing most non-chain stores could do it for a small fee or maybe even free. Just make sure you visit those that uses a machine to measure instead of the old school manual type. They specs shop in Japan need info like pupil distance and axis

My experience when making specs in japan doesn't required speaking much jap. They'll just ask you okay or not okay and adjust accordingly.

Couldn't remember how much is Progressive lens but definitely much cheaper than sg. Wanted to get one but didn't coz it'll take 10day before can collect.

i may be wrong, but the three biggest chain specs store in Japan are
Megane Ichiba > JINS > Zoff
(Owndays too small for these 3 big giants)

they all have their own frame designs and series, Zoff is particularly popular with their trendy frame designs, while Megane Ichiba has probably the widest variety of frame designs and lens selection...

but spectacles is a very personal thing so it won't hurt to go shop at all three

i made one pair of JINS specs at tokyo

because of my limited jap

i feel that its hard to communicate to the optician

unlike in korea, where they have chinese speaking optician to speak to you.

After reading this thread, it seems like spectacles in Japan are really a lot cheaper...

I'll be in Japan in 2 weeks time and would probably be looking to get a pair of spectacles if they are cheaper than in SG.

Does anyone know what's the price range like for the lens which is of 1.74, has transition and also blue control aka PC lens type? Will be in Tokyo for around 10 days, so there should be sufficient time to get it done... i hope...

My current pair is 1.74 with transition and cost me $500 at Jamco...
Made around 3 years ago...

Sad to say, I have high degree and high astig... -_\
Asked around in SG and prices are all around the $700~$800++ range... and these are with the cheapest frames they have in the shop. Inflation is scary lol... orz
