It’s worth noting that Turbo mode for Ryzen CPU is currently disabled (or undetected), so the performance could still theoretically increase. The Ryzen 7 model that was used for this test has a base clock of 3400 MHz. Judging from what we know so far, this means Ryzen 7 1700X, so it is not the fastest Ryzen model out there.

What’s also quite interesting is the fact that Ryzen 7 CPU was tested on .. MSI A320 motherboard, which looks like this. This is an entry-level AM4 motherboard, so we don’t know how did that affect performance, maybe that’s why Turbo mode was undetected in the first place.

Finally the last important thing to note are memory timings (17-17-17-39 2T) @ 2400 MHz. This also could’ve negatively affected the performance, as those timings are not very good.

If the performance vs retail selling price is true then it is very attractive.

So a 6 core 12 threads intel processor from 2016 beat AMD 8 core 16 thread processor.

Anyone knows what memory timing is good for Ryzen.

As long their 8 core can touch the lower end of 8 core haswell xeon can Liao.....

Newer xeon cpu+mono are overpriced unless it is the es version.....

For some, 7700K again win.

See only what you want to see. =:p

Not really a fair fight comparing to 4 core 7700K in CPU benchmarks. compare to 8 core intels makes more sense with just cpu benchmarks. Though i would like to see how it compares in gaming benchmarks to 7700K

Unless its price significantly less than its intel counterpart or far less battery comsumption, it will be tough to gain much traction. This isn't like in the days of K7. For most people, processor tech is already at good enough. Many people don't have desktop anymore, and for most people battery life is more important than performance beyond a certain level when using a laptop. Also it will depend on laptop makers to push amd inside, which I don't see happening unless amd provide superior margins

Well, the new amd chip is good news for ppl who are into building home virtualization labs....

No longer we have to go all the way back to 6-7 yrs old xeon chip or even es chip.

I hope this is the case :s12:

This reminds me of that guy who created ESXi hosts using Opterons; so powerful that can host two gaming computers and many other VMs :s13:

i think for most consumers that are using it to game, the core count doesnt matter actually....

u give me 10 core, 20 core, as long its cheaper or similar price to a intel 4C/8thread cpu and
performs about the same or better, thats all that matters :s13: ?

It is not a fair fight to compare 8 vs 4 cores, but it all boils down to which is of better value. Intel have limited consumers to 4 core chips for a very long time by charging substantially more for their 6 and 8 core solutions. Even the mobo supporting these Intel 6 and 8 core chips cost more than their mainstream parts. Therefore, if AMD is capable of delivering higher core count solution that is highly competitive to Intel's solution, it is a win for consumers.

At this point, I believe most games are optimized for quad cores with higher clockspeed since quad core processors are the most common. Eventually, games may start optimizing for higher core count.

Exciting time for AMD and consumers. Pray hard AMD pulls off a few OEM design wins as well in Apple, HP, Lenovo and Asus etc.

Me only interested in gaming benchmark....but I got a hunch that GPU still most significant in gaming........
