On a side note, would anyone be interested in buying BA Avios miles @ US$ 0.7cpm? If there is interest I can write a post about it tomorrow.

One option for Japan would be to book on JL through Alaska. If you can tolerate one stop, can book CX for 5k less miles on Alaska. they have a sale of miles going on.

Can also check for NH through Krisflyer.

CX thru Alaska Airlines have to call Alaska Airlines?

Finally can book for taipei liao. Taipei fuel surcharge was atrocious....but bye bye to japan...

With this change, economy tickets become more attractive to redeem. Taipei economy now cost 4.5k miles more but SGD300 less.

SIN-SFO economy need 16k miles more but save SGD600+.

This move just made economy tickets worthwhile to redeem for if you are not a big collector of miles. At least you can get something with limited miles.

Yap. Think move good for economy tickets due to low miles requirements at the start. However, for taipei, the bulk of the surchaege is airport tax anyway. In the past. I been redeeming 1 way tic separately as depart from taipei only need to add 80

Not sure if anyone has done this calculation before.. But please correct me if i'm wrong!

For : redeeming SIN-JFK on Suites

Old rate : 93500 miles + SGD466
New rate : 120000 miles + SGD128

Difference of +26500, and -SGD338.

If I use iPaymy website coupled with 4mpd credit card to earn (buy) miles, I need to pay for SGD6625 (26500/4) worth of stuffs. As iPaymy charges 2.5% of transaction fees, I would need to pay SGD165 to 'buy' these 26500 miles.

So technically speaking, for the new redemption rate, I need to pay SGD293 of $$$. It's still cheaper than to pay SGD466 currently. So the devaluation rate is actually beneficial for me right?

The one stop is really horrible. I just booked using Asiamiles last week, since my asiamiles were expiring. CX doesn't give you the best layover option for redemption, and this is for a trip later in November. We are left with spending 4.5 hours in HKIA with kids in tow. Total time taken to Tokyo is about 13+ hours.

Amd freak:

+26.5 k miles
-$338

If u rate 1k miles at $20, the new scheme is more expensive. Shouldnt confuse e matter with how u get ur miles in my opinion. :)

I Agree on this. Still need to spend more on the same flight redemption. :s22:

The beauty of the new change shld be to add on the domestic flight sector or regional flights. Previously will buy separately on your own, now can just add the domestic flight for min additional sum for airport surcharge. Play with open jaw options. Shld be quite viable now (subject to partner airlines availability on those domestic flight).

Actually this change mainly benefit people who are taking economy and perhaps this action will attract more people to convert their points into krisflyer miles. :)

That sounds like poor planning. You had 3 years to use your miles and you left it until the last minute? thats not even considering the 2 or more years your points sit in your credit card rewards program.
And you booked economy that gives the poorest value. And never got priority passes that are easy to get nowadays.
If I had made all these mistakes I'll blame myself.

Not too sure about linking blogs, but yes that is the line of thinking, with a bit of tweaking. I just bought 800k Avios for 5.6k usd, which further gives another 150k UR+MR points for minimum spend across various US cards. What a steal :s12::s12::s12:

I disagree. The source of obtaining your miles doesn't matter, unless you do not have any other credit card spending and solely rely on buying miles at 2.5% fees. If I follow your line of reasoning, I can buy miles for 0.625 cents a piece, which makes every single redemption viable because 0.625 is less than 2. Clearly not the case.

In one of my examples few pages back, SIN-TPE Y is actually cheaper after 23Mar if each KF mile is valued at 2cents. It really depends on YQ of individual routes.

Thanks for confirming you were wrong. It's not unusual that people make claims and fail to prove it.

I don't owe anyone a spoonfed answer and I most certainly don't owe it to someone who can't be bothered to find out on his own. Also, don't blindly say people are wrong just because you don't get the answer laid out on a silver platter for you. Cheers!

I think some destinations are cheaper n some are more expensive after the change if we consider miles to be worth $200/10k. However at least now i can slowly accumulate/earn by doing own purchase instead of having no choice die die must pay for the fuel surcharge.
