I have this friend who keeps tell me that he will go all-in and buy big when the next crash comes.. he has been saying this for like 5 years plus already....
during 2011-12 period the STI fell from 3300 level to 2700... he didn't buy... missed the boat...
during 2015-16 period the STI fell from 3500 level to 2500... he didn't buy also... missed the boat again...

till date he still telling me that he predict STI will eventually crash 50% then he will go in and buy up stocks big big...
what do you think of him? do you have any friend that is like this?

if the definition of missing the boat = opportunity cost. you're right.

BUT, we need these people around, purely based on their overconservative nature which works to the advantage of sg banks.

which banks in the world have 50% of deposits paying 0.25%, and people continuing to dump money in just for that 0.25%?

huat ah sg banks!!!

I think singaporeans in general just don't get the idea of compound interest and inflation.

They think leaving money in the bank is the safest, when ironically, it is basically a guaranteed way of losing your money due to 1-3% inflation per year.

Ya, this concept is hard for some to understand. They rather see $$ is there no matter if it is losing value. :s22:

so did you go >50% in during the crash :s11:
1998 I did, but my total net worth then was only $30k, came out 1 year later close to $80k

2008 was bad timing for me, bought a house and had very little cash left

That's me. :s13: And I missed the corrections of AFC and to a lesser extent the GFC. Have since learned to just stay invested and ignore the short term market movements.
