I doubt so. Even if have also ain't cheap, plus u need a hood cooler for the trade off for weight.

Well, have you seen the asus gx800? Extreme over the top just because they can kind of laptop with 1080 SLI and water cooling. :spin:

does anyone know if between asus ux310 or ux330 which one is more worth it?

Again, as always the answer is it depends.
The main differences we are looking at here are the graphics card, price and weight.

Graphics card: gtx 940MX(UX310) vs intel hd 620(UX330)
The dedicated graphics(UX310) wins by a long shot compared to the integrated graphics.
Comparison- http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/inde...l-hd-graphics-620-mobile-vs-geforce-940mx-2gb

(The gtx 940MX does consume more power though, not sure how that affects battery performance)

Price: Are you willing to spend $200 more for better graphics performance?

Weight: 1.4kg(UX310) vs 1.2kg(UX330)
I know it's only 200g, but maybe u just want the lightest u can get?

All existing poly students can buy the laptop or only available to new enrols?

My kid is an existing student and I wonder if we qualify.

For processing of 3 dimensioned shapes and graphical applications. To put it in a commonly seen analogy where the usage of dedicated gpus are most prevalent is is in gaming: Where performance wise, faster memory and graphical optimised processing cores allows for quicker "building" of complex shapes which would otherwise bog down an integrated graphics card which does not have its own dedicated memory and shares it with the ehole system.

A rule of thumb normally dictates that laptops with shared / integrated graphics has a longer battery life compared to one with.

You can buy the laptop, but priority will be given to first year students.

Just to clarify a dedicated graphics card that IS SWITCHABLE is better than a dedicated graphics card rite? So if it's switchable it'll consume lesser batt as compared to a non-switchable dedicated graphics card,am i rite?:s12: :s22:

depends on the maker, but most of them are switchable due to the applications u using and set them to turn on discrete GPU. so when u do that they switch automatically. well im not sure if it consumer less, but should be slightly lesser than those with only discrete gpu

Most laptops come with switchable graphics. It has been around for many years. Nvidia with their Optimus technology and AMD / ATI with their Switchable graphics settings.

The idea is to have seamless switching between igpu and dgpu for optimal power usage and performance. So how it works is that it will switch when it is required to the dgpu and on normal usages the igpu will kick for instance in Microsoft words / chrome browsing unless you specify to run it with the dgpu or dictate it to run it all the time in your gpu's global settings.

Thing is sometimes, this has issues as well, where a supposedly dgpu software runs on igpu.

Based on my understanding yes. But if you have school images (software) you can only have it on a single pc. It's not worth to upgrade yearly cause there will not be much improvements over the 3 years.

Definitely not all for own use...maybe get for family member...:D!
