TCM treatment

Hi,
Is it ok if anyone could share their recovery by TCM treatment (e.g. Those treated by Dr Ong Swee Ling from Yong Kang Medical Hall).

How long does yours take to recover?
Also, are there any side effects of TCM?

No really effective and it seems that everyone goes through the stardard treatment process of acupuncture, suction cupping and medication. Whether there is a need for acupuncture or suction cupping remained to be answered. It costs $161 for my visit.

Now I try the oatmeal & honey soap from the "soap haven" brand and it seems to be working. I have mild eczema and for those with severe eczema, it may not work. But no harm trying to find a cure or relief for itch and the bumps.

Forget about TCM, it will not see the result and furthermore there is no answer to Eczema whether is TCM or the specialist dermatologist. You are right that it will come back and haunt you again.

Trying the oatmeal and honey soap is an experimental way to find relief in itch, etc. One's still have to use moisturizer to go along with the management of itch. Time will tell if it is really effective and if it can contain for the long run. I am also experimenting with jojoba oil to see if it can lighten the itch further.

First of all, if anyone is applying topical steriods or taking oral steriods, I would advise you to stop and do some research on the effects of steriods.

I am one such case. Started with ezcema on my hands. Went to NSC for over 1 yr plus, took a total of 4 courses of oral steriods. Each time I will see stark improvement very quickly, but never fully recover. As the steriod dosage taper down, the ezcema would flare up even worst then before.

After the 2nd course, the doctor did not want to give me steroids again. But at that point I have not done my research, I just felt that oral steriods was the only thing that brought me relieve, so I asked for it. After each course the condition worsened.

After the 4th time taking oral steriods I finally did some reading up and decided to stop going to NSC. So if you have taken 1 course or steriods and not fully recivered, you should stop.

I have also went to Dr Ong Swee Ling for about 3 months. Did everything, accupuncture, cupping, meds, cream. The meds are quite costly. For me I can't really tell if it works or not. TCM typically take very long to see effect. At one point I had a very bad flare up about 1.5 mth after stopping tropical steriods. My hand was swollen, the palm was very weepy, and the ezcema spread to my tighs. The TCM said it is withdrawal. I wanted to believe them, cause normally TCM works better for me then western medicine for any ailments like cough or flu.

But the turning point came when they changed the medicine for me, which caused me to have very very bad diarrhea. I'm talking about passing bile bad.


I went back to them, told them about it. Instead of changing the medicine, they said maybe I was more sensitive, and gave me another powder to mix togather. Still same effect. So I feel that they are not really listening to their patient and just prescribing their standard treatment.

Just sharing my experience.
My case is a mild eczema which started one year plus ago. Started behind the knees and later spread to neck, armpit and elbow. Visited GP, polyclinic and NSC and was given topical steroid and moisturiser. The eczema always come back after i stopped applying steroid. Decided to give TCM a try. Did not see much improvement for the first 2 courses of oral med (消风散) and acupuncture (still very itchy and red cos no steroid application - unbearable phase) and only started to see improvement after 4th course.
Stopped the oral med after 5 courses. Now my skin is not red and scaly as before, at times very minor flare.

Vaseline moisturises/helps skin to retain moisture if I am not wrong. But if it is a severe eczema flare, steroids is really the ultimatum solution. );

Ya.... once your condition really went downhill.... no moisturisers/topical creams can help; your doc will be forced to give you a limited amt of Prednisolone(spelling?) to quell everything

TCM nvr work for me. 30 years of eczema ( I am 32 btw), various TCM treatment, no improvement

stop any steroid medication, tahan the steroid withdrawal symdrome and you will be good

Have to slowly wane off, just stopping immediately will trigger a flare up. Also need to keep your skin moisturized.

Interestingly, when I was in my pre-teens, all the docs instruct me not to engage in strenous activity that causes excessive sweating. Can't remember how it turns out but recently went back into exercising regularly for weight loss, my condition somehow is more stable than before.

@Luffyz, I am also interested in knowing how to get rid of the scars and black marks; I am the fair type and seldom go under the sun.

Just returning to update on my status.
TLDR: Wrong diagnosis from almost every doctor (even TCM) I went to, ever.

My suggestion is to put the diagnosis of the doctor to the test. I can only input info based on my circumstance.

I no longer show allergy symptoms to egg yolks. After consumption it usually leads to skin bubbles on my palms, a lot of itching and scratching and scaly cracked skin.

Found out that I am not suffering from eczema, but the hand version of athlete's foot AKA fungus infection. Bought salicylic acid (in alcohol solution) and used for a few months now. Palm side is mostly back to normal skin, finger backs and nails still needs some time to recover.

If you recover using the below methods, congrats it was just fungus. If not you can still try using emu oil, can buy from the box rental shops (some of the chains, not all carry it). I did suffer from eczema recently, on my shoulder. Emu oil got rid of it.

1) Use the Salicylic in alchohol solution (can be bought from TCM pharmacies) on the affected areas. see if there is skin peeling and improvement after a few days.

2) Soak affected area in vinegar for 10 mins , pat dry then soak in baking soda for 10 mins. Repeat for a few days, see if there is improvement. Use cotton pads if affected area is not suitable for soaking (e.g Shoulders, face area)

3) keep affected area dry. can wash of course, but must pat dry asap. Fungus likes moist environment.

4) if there is damaged skin due to scratching or injuries, use vaseline on it. It promotes healing and acts as a shield against fungus invasion.

I recently had very bad eczema on my face. Have angry red patches on both my cheeks. I've been to GPs and it's been five days, but the redness is not going away. Anyone has any idea how Long do I need to wait for it to clear? I did send it a request for an appointment to national skin centre. Anyone knows how Long does national skin centre get back with an appt?

Not all TCMs treatment are as effective as what they claimed to be especially that of Dr Ong. It will be wise to stop going there if you feel that they are basically following a list of medication for patients to follow or just turning a deaf ear to the patients. I don't see the professionalism there. My experience wasn't as good as yours and since it is rather expensive, I stopped going there.

Basically all of us can forget abt trying tcm for eczema, becos most of the tcm physicians in Sgp are really not up to standard. I say so becos i myself have eczema & i studied tcm. I visited so many physicians yet they don't seem to understand how to treat eczema.
