My concern is parking may be tough in queenstown but to stay in city centre guess i have to give up waking up to good views

I only tried paying by card twice. Once at a hostel, once at an automated petrol pump. Both times failed. I was able to withdraw cash from their ATM though.

I did not have a problem paying by card. Just call your bank to get the PIN number.

Usually most people come into the town center to eat and shop. Since parking is a problem within the town center, you will still need to walk a bit whether you stay in town or not. A fortnight in NZ will be saturated with good views anyway.

Didnt get that when I was in NZ, but I've rented pocket wifi in my other travels before, not worth it.. When got 2 or more phones connected, the connection becomes non-existent and turtle paced. Might as well spend abit more get local data.

Hello...are you aware that it is winter in August?
Some of the roads like to Mount Cook and some activities will be closed or not operating. If you can get into Mount Cook, you have to be prepared that you can't get out due to severe weather.
Check out the weather for August to plan.

I was there in summer and yet I was stuck in Mount Cook for 1 day.

that's a weird route... u fly in to QS but you go up to TKP/CC then go back down to the south...

consider skipping Dunedin/CC if you can... then go QS>TA>WNK>TKP>MC>TKP>MC>WNK>FG>WNK/QS

use QS as the base for TA, use WNK as the base for FG and TKP

the west coast or the glacier side is actually the most out of the way

Hi guys, my friends and I are doing a 12 day road trip to South Island in Oct. Just want to check where is a good area for rental of a campervan for 1-2 nights for outdoor camping?

Areas we are planning to visit:
Lake Tekapo
Drive to Mount Cook & Lake Pukaki
Lake Wanaka
Queenstown
Glenorchy
Te Anau
Milford Sound
Westland National Park
Franz Josef Glacier

Also any suggestions on areas to visit would be great.

Thanks!

Don't think you can find any campervan rental for 1-2days. They will have minimum days rental. It was 3 or 5 days even for me during winter.. standard loop, chc - greymouth - fox/Franz - wanaka - Queenstown - tekapo/cook - chc. With some detour or adjustable to other place of your liking along the way

Yeah thinking of getting the campervan from CHC and then return to Queenstown. Any recommendations on which rental company to book from?

any reason y u wanna spend 3N in at the glacier?

i duno how fast/convenient the buses are, but can any of u drive?

the bussing around can take off quite abit of ur "enjoying" time so u have to buffer some time for the travelling...
