The "request timeout issue" can easily be resolved by STOP using STARHUB DNS.
You can try this on the DIR-868L router page 192.168.0.1 -> setup -> parental control -> select "OpendDNS@FamilyShield" -> save settings. Immediately you can see the difference.

As for Asus N router better than the DIR-868L, i will leave that to your personal experience. Personally I have upgraded to the firmware version 1.09SHC and this is the best version that they have rolled out. There are special instruction in dlink website before upgrading. Pls read the instruction 1st.
StarHub DNS are still good for their speed when they work. But indeed, need to have a backup.

What I do is to key in one of the Google DNS as the primary DNS, but leaving out the secondary DNS entry so that it gets populated by the StarHub's servers.

Thus I get this:
Primary DNS Server : 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS)
Secondary DNS Server : 172.17.5.68 (StarHub DNS, values provided by StarHub).

While it works for you, personally I still don't trust STARHUB DNS.

no la, just last week someone in the Starhub Facebook posted slow and intermitten disconnection. After I guided them to change to OpenDNS, the problem got resolved.

Have you upgrade this 868L firmware first before doing anything else.
After upgrade, using S6 & S7 +Edge the wireless connection speed test result is 400 ~ 500 Mbps.

Do use this link to upgrade the firmware;

http://www.starhub.com/content/dam/edm/2017/broadband/d-link/index.html

If you are Starhub broadband customer you could enter the contest too.

Ya the average is 200+ for normal usage as other devices connected to it.
Other devices also do take some bandwidth as it is shared and not for only on 1 device alone.
Also is 1 device is seriously engaged, then the other devices may slow down a bit as it depend on router on managed the network.:D:):s12:

As what i meant is that router do have limit to 600Mbps for wireless and so shared among those using &or connected to it
Not in use, disconnect is one way to move more bandwidth to the one using it.:s12:

Using wifi with Dlink 858 router on desktop, with a TP link wifi adapter. Tried calling in 1633 to enquire, but waited too long listening to the music..hence give up liao and hope to try my luck here.

Have you upgrade this DLink 868 Router firmware.
This link is available in my previous post.
It will definitely benefit Wi-Fi speed.:)

Starhub HOTline 1633 direct to Broadband tech support line.
If busy call later as it will take several minutes to resolve problem online.
Anyway as this is WiFi issue, they cannot help as due to router.:s22:

ya try look into router issue update fw and reboot or reboot the ONT too
somtmes the lan cable might be degrading as cheapo one cant last as good as good one which i encounter
if u got a 100mb fibre it sould not lag too much too

i got a 200mb fibre and 1gb fibre
no much issue

Re-read your post.

Are you on 100mbps fibre as there is no such plan.
Unless you are on 1000Mbps or 1Gbps plan.

And there is no DLink 858 router but common is DLink 868L.

Pls do confirm your statements.:D:s22:

Hi everyone, I'm on starhub fibre 200mbps(old homehub 200). Using old router of DLINK 865L.

Recently my Internet connection has been patchy and laggy, especially at night, after using for awhile, suddenly the Internet does not work anymore. Nid to keep restarting ONT and router. Damn frustrating.

Called in to starhub and they asked if I have plugged in my laptop direct to ONT anot, but it doesn't seem to work much...

Dunno isit my router problem or starhub side laggy

You need to do update this DLink 865L firmware.
After i did the updated, it is good and resolved all problems prior to it.

Links; firmware updates on the 2nd links on version 1.07

ftp://dlink.com.sg/DIR-865L/PDF Files/How to Perform Firmware Upgrade on DIR-865L Router.pdf

http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-865L

You have to do a factory reset after firmware update.
After firmware update, the password to the setting is the stated on the router label sticker.
This will the standard for all future firmware update.

Regards.

How is Starhub Fiber Internet now arh? I am thinking to leave VQ to join back Starhub as I would then be a hubber as already having Starhub Cable TV & 4 Mobile lines.
