Just ended my journey with this instructor Mr L** and he's a PDI for CDC. Am still on a lookout for patient and reliable instructor...

Upon looking a few positive reviews in HWZ for this Mr L**, decided to engage his service. First of all, his charges are: $80 for registration, $60 for 100 mins, $300 for rental of car for TP.. Payment of lessons must be in advance. So in order to book for the next lesson, gotta pay him the next lesson's fee of $60. He will give you the option to pay for "insurance" which is about $80-100 (i can't rmb the exact figure cos I didn't take up the option) and if you pay him this "insurance" should you meet any accident, he will pay for the damages. And if you didn't, any accident incurred by you, you gotta pay for the damages. Then he went on to show me a claim from some TAXI and told me that the student had to fork out a few hundreds. As it was my first time learning, I didn't realise that it wasn't the norm to have such "insurance". But since he seemed nice on the first lesson, went ahead to pay for the registration and lesson fees.

Booking him to learn routes in the day wasn't a problem. But should you want to learn parking, it's only available on SUNDAYS and he's perpetually fully booked on every Sunday.

I decided to not engage him after today's lesson. Reason: My previous parking lesson was one month ago. It was the second time I learn parallel parking today after a one month gap. And because his Sundays were so packed, I could only book a slot with him one month later. Instead of revising the steps with me, he scolded me for forgetting them and not learning frequently enough. When I asked him some steps for assurance, he didn't reply me or when he did, it was all scoldings like "you very lousy" or "even if you wanna learn, but I might not have the health to teach you cos you are very lousy". Half the time he just stood there and yelled in the open carpark. I felt really lousy and made more mistakes eventually.

I've took 15 lessons with him and he kept saying "you're slow" and "you're lousy" and "you need more lessons" from the 2nd lesson onwards. Decided not to learn from him as it got me really demoralized.

Will appreciate if any kind soul can recommend me a patient and reliable instructor?

Raymond contact

Hi guys,

Just passed my TP this morning! (First Attempt)

He teaches manual.

If anybody look for PDI around west area can contact my instructor, Raymond.
He's pickup point is as lakeside MRT station there. Rate is 26/hr for non peak, 28/hr for peak.

He have teaching experience of 30years, driving a white mit lancer.
Basically, he's very patient with me and always say "There's no "un-teachable students unless the students itself don't want to learn." He will let you drive around Jurong West area till he feel that you're ready for TP route. Learning from him, you will feel that your on road driving is much better compare to those school learners 1. He got his own ways of teaching and own theory of booking test date. So is either you want or don't want to listen.

One thing to note is that, he can't stand stubborn people that always talk back. He is those responsible type unlike some will fall asleep or don't care about you. If you don't mind him listening to oldies and eating tidbits while teaching, then it should be alright.

There's a one-time registration fee of S$50, and for test day, there's a charge of S$78 for use of his car(26 x 3). He will explain and calculate everything nicely for you. So don't have to worry.

Those who want his contact can PM me. :)

HI can please share his contact with me? I can't PM you cos i'm new here. Thanks!

Hi guys,

I just got a different quote from a private instructor, he's the first one to quote me an insurance fee on top of that enrollment fee. May I ask what's the different, as he say like is to so called protect myself from any damage if the car I'm learning to drive got into any accident, and the insurance he will fully covered for me. So it is like a must to buy that insurance as other private instructor didn't give me a quote on this except his rate & enrollment fee.:s22::s11:

Yep, you use your own private instructor car for your TP test. Normally it's better since you're more familiar with the car and how it works. Different car all different. And your PDI will only collect the fee on the day of your TP test :)

He isn't? But I'm going for the first lesson by him in a few days?

You are going with Frankie? He is very good. Im with him currently and my TP is coming soon on the 10th.I think now his schedule is super pack and doesnt accept anymore new students that just call up to enquire. Because every time in the car, he will.every now and then open up his organiser and i saw all the dates and times are fully book.
