Torn between mate 10 and note 8. My key needs is good battery life and SD card. Was leaning towards mate but saw reviews that note 8 actually wins as it is more energy efficient despite a smaller battery.

It will take sometime for the software to be optimized for battery life. But I'm pretty sure after a few software updates, it will be on par with the other flagships

For what it's worth, the software allows to adjust the screen resolution from QHD to FHD to 720p. Not sure if it will save battery going to 1080p but it's there.

There was a software update recently becos of google service bugs that heats the phone up and also affects battery life

I went to test the mate 10, yes the home button navi gestures is available, it also has a virtual button that can do some navi gestures but not as smooth as the hardware home button so makes the m10 front home button much faster than any screen nav buttons

The set feels warm but I'm guessing it's not using the right charger on the phone.

However, I forgot to test the mobile data plan if it can reset based on the date we set. To those that haven't used HW phones, do note there is no way to reset mobile data plan based on ur Telco reset date. Anyone going to test pls check if this feature has been fixed but HW

are you referring to the built-in data tracker (under settings)?

for myself as I am using Singtel, I use the Singtel app to monitor the data usage (basically just an accumulated figure). i'm not so bothered with the graph (usage over time). and I also find that the onboard settings for data tracking isn't accurate for my current Sony phone so I don't even refer to it anymore. Just the Singtel app will do.

Yeah I read about that as well. But I do have concerns on Huawei's speed in rolling out updates coming from Mate 9. Sg is one of the regions C636 that do not receive regular updates unlike Europe. I saw somewhere that they will be focusing more on software this year onwards but whether they will live up to their promise is something yet to be seen...

Ya, mobile data usage. I've used it on Samsung, xiaomi and OnePlus and they are quite accurate. I just need a ballpark of data usage to be honest with a reminder when it's close to limit and they came pretty close usually within 100MB which is good enough for me.

Do you know if the hardware model is different between Singapore and Europe phones? If it's just a software check then it's pretty easy to trick the software into thinking it's coming from Europe

s8 to mate 10 pro consider upgrade ?

10 > 8 therefore it's an upgrade.
2 cameras vs 1 camera on back. Upgrade.
IP 67 vs IP 68. Downgrade.
Android 8.0 vs (as of now) Android 7.x.x. Upgrade.
Good fp placement vs bad fp placement. Upgrade.

Overall, still depends on your disposable income and if you really want to change or not. Don't think much difference.

Much harder than that learning from Mate 9. Firstly the set is so called region locked even with same specs eg AL00 - China, C636 for international. You need to unlock bootloader and flash to another region firmware to get updates intended for another region. And u also need a sim card corresponding to the region to receive updates.

First time see so many pattern one...
