Hi everyone, I have been using ds215j with 2 wd reds. I have been receiving logs that disk 1 kept removing anf inserting by itself although I didn't touch the nas. Yesterday, could not find disk 1 in dsm. I bought a new hgst 4tb and inserted into disk 1. But still I could not find the new hgst in disk 1. Any shifu can help? Should I bring the nas to support centre? Where is support center as I couldn't find the info. Thanks again! My ds215j is 3 year old

Hi! I think one of my HDD of my DS412 has failed. What should I do? Do I just replace the failed HDD with a new one? Will my data still be OK?

Thanks!

If your volume is on RAID1/5/6/10 or SHR1/2, you can just remove one hard disk and replace it anytime later. But obviously removing the hard disk will render the volume in degraded mode and in the case of a single redundancy volume, you will be vulnerable to losing data, until your resilvering is completed.

buy new 1. The thing about Synology is, the distributors does not do repairs - they simply ship it back to TW to let them handle it.

Anyone here using Synology Secure Erase to wipe of data from hard disk?
If so, how long it takes to wipe a 2TB HDD?

Is anyone using the Toshiba X300 drives?

I have two of the older series (MD04ACA500). They run hotter (3-5c) as compared to the WD Red (which I am trying to replace). Just concern about the overall amount of heat generated with 4 desktop series drives in the NAS.

Toshiba X300 6TB going for S$213.85 on SG Amazon Prime.

any particular model i need to look at? the last ram modeule i know was ddr3. Is it still the same?

it is shown here

https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/DS218+#specs

DDR3L
Most memory (despite Synology states otherwise) works. Your mileage might varies.

Just note that, my DS1515+ came without "L". I bought a L and it doesn't work. so i swapped the default memory to a L too and both works. In other words, if you want to keep the existing ram, buy the same type.

L = low power btw. - usually for notebooks
