New Rig - After 6 Years

Hi Bros,

I've been using my current home PC for 6 years now, graphic card and CPU are really showing signs of aging. I'd like to do a major upgrade, using the new rig for games, movies, light work and browsing.

I'm thinking of the following setup:

CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti
SSD: Samsung 960 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB (2016)
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400 C16 4x4GB
MBD: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING


(1) Monitor - Any suggestions for a good monitor for gaming and general purpose?
(2) RAM - is the choice of ram alright?

Hmm If you not planning to overclock , then I suggest you getting i5-8400

Hard Disk you can get Toshiba 3TB 7200rpm (more cheaper)

For RAM , you can get 8GBx2 instead . Recommend would be Geil EVO X RGB (if you want rgb) / Corsair Vengeance LPX

Monitor : Dell SE2417HG (est price $159-169) unless you want curved monitor recommended would be Samsung

Don't buy a simple 1070 ti and pair with a 1080p 60hz monitor. You're wasting gpu power and money this way.

Get a BenQ XL2411 1080p 144Hz if you playing fast pace fps games or a Prism+ W270 1440p 60hz for immersive rpg with good colours. Get these for the very least.

RAM is fine, though higher hz is slightly better like the Corsair Vengeance LPX as suggested or RGB RAM like Corsair Vengeance RGB or G.Skill Trident Z RGB or Klevv Cras II. Intel don't benefit too much from high speed ram so you are free to choose whatever you like.

Don't get 3TB HDD. Get a 4TB HGST Deskstar. 3TB across all brands and models have bad reliability issue.

PSU I suggest you get Superflower, EVGA or Seasonic 80+ Gold 600W and above.

Chassis get Fractal Design Meshify C

The rest are fine.

1060.. no doubt. If interested can pm me. I’m most likely gonna get a 1070 end of the month. Then no use for the 1060 already. But is 3gb lah lol.

But why would you get a 1070 now? It is still over price and 20xx series should be out this year. If you're going to pay for the extra cost, why do you want to pay for 2 year old product and not the latest gen? Just trying to understand the reason here...

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. Did a bit of tweaking to the earlier setup after the comments. Here goes:

CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti
SSD: Samsung 960 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB
HDD: Toshiba X300 4TB
RAM: VENGEANCE RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200
MBD: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING
Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU 27″
PSU: EVGA 650 G3
Chassis: NZXT (any suggestions?) or Fractal Design Meshify C
Cooler: CRYORIG H7 Quad Lumi


Is this setup fine for most games at ultra settings (even for FF15)?

Gpu wise I don't think so. Coz the game is not optimized as when this post is written. My gtx 1080 could run 1440p 60-80fps only instead of the 144fps that's optimal for your monitor of choice.

However, most other games are fine to hit 144fps. Only those triple A titles you will find some difficulties and have to lower to high settings instead of ultra to push 144fps
