you can make use of credit card rebates + lazada rebates etc then can save a bit, rather than buying from SLS?

Why not consider Sound BlasterX AE-5 instead? Can just order online from Creative and get it delivered, no need to waste the trip.

It improves things so much that AVRs are including sound cards just to make the sound better.

Actually I'm just kidding. AVR makers already know what they're doing.

Currently using onboard sound with Katana.

If you are using Katana than use it's on board features.
If you get a separate sound card and connect to it.
You will lose many feature like 7.1, LED control and etc.
Katana is recommended to use USB for PC.

Buying sound card huh? You must have very expensive 1k plus surround speakers then or i doubt will make a difference.
