Be careful with Samsonite. Bought an expensive 29" Spinner partly because it has 10 year warranty.
Put it in storeroom a couple of years ago and it was fine but took it out recently to find all 4 wheels the plastic has gone mouldy and crumbled to pieces.
Took it to the service centre only to be told that this is considered "wear and tear" not faulty material..???
My older Delsey and Tumi both no issue at all. Avoid Samsonite...

how is american tourister? samsonite is way out of my budget. the 68cm cost 300plus, even after sale..

will be heading to HK next week, will head over citygate for cheap luggage.

i use american tourister.. but only for my cabin luggage. light yet affordable. good choice but prefer 2 wheelers due to weight issue..

I'm also looking for a luggage and found a local review at Skyscanner website that subjected popular ones to destructive tests -- titled "Best luggage reviewed: 8 suitcases tested to destruction". I'm unable to post link as I've insufficient posts.

After reading this thread and the article above, my choice is presently inclined towards Delsey.

My 2 wheel samsonite cloth carry on going on strong for 5 yrs liao
My 1 year old American tourister 4 wheel hard case check in size broke e handles twice (both handles) and i juz report at Changi Baggage service. They send courier to pickup, repair n return.
But can see the repair skills nt really fantastic..

Will avoid AT in future n probably go for Delsey cos its cheaper.

Reviving this thread.

I purchased an American Tourister Air Force 1 from London and within one trip, the extender zip head dislodged and got missing. As my suitcase is still under warranty, I went to the Samsonite/American tourister service centre (Bylands Building #01-04). They did the paperwork and proceed to send it to Mirrco (Bylands Building #01-09) which is the authorised repairer for American Tourister. Nothing special about that shop. The repair workmanship is okay but they give me another zip head from (brandless zip head which is not even AT or Samsonite). I also had to wait 3 hours for a 5 minutes job.

I wouldn't buy American Tourister or Samsonite because of the after sales service. From what I overhead over there at the shop, most of the people who send their lugggage for repair were quoted quite expensive prices for their repairs. For example, $50 to replace on wheel. $80 to replace the lock.

Hi all,

Is there anyway and sites to recommend to buy Rimowa online (looking at the 34L Topas titanium) and ship to my friend who is german (but working in Singapore) then i process the VAT online.. so that hassle free for him.

I get the best deal and also VAT refund without much trouble to him?

TIA!

I'm using Eminent luggage for the past 5 years till date... No issues. But i'm keen on Rimowa luggage as its looks nice due to design factors.

Anyone been to their stores & check out the prices for their luggage?

Hi Siyu,

Sorry as I am also interested to know how do you claim VAT online? Are you saying that buying online (from Singapore) but ship to Germany? Thanks.

Lojel is good
Very respected brand in Japan and price is reasonably in SG
its not good if u dont use it 3-4 times a year

cos due to singapore's climate the rubber sealant will give way, the rubber handle will break halfway into ur travel in overseas.

Rimowa too many people using. I bought the aluminium series from Tumi instead. Very pleased with it so far.

For cabin sized luggage, 2 wheelers and cloth material is the best for me.
The brand doesn't matter much to me. The construction quality is more important.
Big wheels
Light

cabin size,
i prefer Crumpler. its not that light (2.5kg) 2 mid-size wheels
but i like the design for work travel where i can easily remove laptop from the frontage for airport checks. It also have small slots suited for ur cables ur phones and battery charger
It also comes w a shoe bag, which i can easily switch my flats to heels when i go straight from airport to office/seminar/workshops

The texture and material is very sturdy. not easy to be fray

there is samsonite that offers the similar function for lappies or tablets. but ---
1) it is MORE expensive than crumpler yet the material can be fray due to wear n tear
2) lack of color choice -- an issue when u r in biz trip, everyone in the event is using the similar and u prolly mistaken urs for others
3) the design isn't very friendly for clothes, mostly only documents and files
4) weight wise no diffo from crumpler

-----------
I just checked, the design i am using is no longer in production :(

I’m looking at a 32” luggage bag.. something big, and 4 wheeler.
Any recommendations? It’s quite rare that I see luggages of thus siza. Hence am wondering where I can get it.
