Every brand has their unhappy moment. Your mobo up lorry doesn't mean others will.

My previous MSI mobo also uplorry fast. But now i'm using a MSI Z87 and still have a MSI Z97 waiting to go in.

Never really used Asus boards cos they are usually overpriced.

Used gigabyte, Asrock and now msi boards.

Had my own positive and negative experience for these 3 brands.

All boils down to user really as we all use motherboards very differently.

Agree. You pay so much for Asus then they only put in Realtek wifi

Well as far as the brand is concerned, the true ROG boards are nothing close in component quality than the mainstream ones.

The mainstream ASUS parts have been plastered with rebranded PWMs (ASP_____), apaq caps, ICs and even the onboard audio.
-For one, to sell the idea of exclusivity
-And the second, to hide the real identity of the regular low cost components used also by other brands for their budget boards.

But they're selling snake oil to the next level by rebranding their mainstream boards (e.g. pro gaming to ROG Strix, Sabertooth to the current day 4 layer PCB no VRM cooling TUF) to convince its users they are of similar quality to Maximus/Crosshair/Zenith/Rampage etc.

That said, you can't judge a coy's product line just by the nomenclature (e.g. strix / tuf automatically bad, crosshair automatically good), it applies to all board makers. For once, the X370 prime-a and the x370 strix are very decent mainstream boards with good VRMs but they took away a lot of BIOS features like missing AMD CBS settings to artificially differentiate the C6H. On the other hand Asus's Z370 prime/strix/tuf are anywhere from bad to mediocre. So really, read proper MB reviews that also tell you how much power draw a particular board will handle without shutting down.

Then again in any case, any brand also have their own duds. But currently Asus's side is not very favourable in terms of what they're asking versus what they're giving.

Stop jinxing it! I used a B150 motherboard from Asus. Had no problems too.

I had a H170I-PLUS D3.one day it went crazy and couldn't boot. RMAed
I also bought a KCMA-D8 only to find out that the first revision by Asus could only support Phenom II opterons. Not Bulldozer ones. Meanwhile all other manufacturers could support bulldozer opterons with a bios update. I gave it to my sister and it eventually became unstable (constant crashing) and one PCI slot completely died.

I'm looking to get 2700/X, don't know if should go for X470 or B350 motherboard. Probably not going to overclock as it is for a "client", I don't want to provide OC support haha.

One feature that the AM4 B350/X370 series doesn't have is the new XFR yes? Do you guys think it will matter a lot? Considering the non-OC scenario.


Edit: I read that the XFR2 is supported on B350/X370. Then what's the point of getting the newer X470?

Bought the Asus ROG Strix X470-F motherboard, bundled with the new AMD Ryzen 2700x in a Fractal Design Meshify C. Currently using the beautiful RGB LED lit Wraith Prism.

The Wraith Prism is able to do its job in keeping CPU temperatures at respectable levels, but it can be quite noisy if the CPU is under stressful workloads as it will ramp up to its maximum speed. Looks really nice in any build, but if you are put off by the noise and the higher than average temperatures, you might want to look for an after-market cooler. After all, we are talking about a 105W TDP CPU, its quite a beast that needs to be tamed quite aggresively where heat is concerned. For me though, I will enjoy the stock cooler for now. Will upgrade to an AIO down the road. Not in any rush to change.

The cooler looks awesome! Is it that noisy? As in audible over whatever you are doing that makes it fully loaded.

Yes, unfortunately :(. Not surprising though, we are dealing with a stock cooler after all. But again, it really depends on your case, distance to the user, and your threshold level as to what is acceptable. I came from intel i5 6600 65W TDP CPU paired with Cryorig H7. The H7 barely made a squeak because its more than capable in cooling the CPU without ramping the fans up. So to hear the CPU fan is something I'm not used to at the moment.

So here it was I observed as well using the stock cooler. It might be useful for those thinking of buying the Ryzen 2700X and using the stock cooler.

The fan curve for the stock cooler is quite, -for a lack of a better description, 'drastic'. What I mean is that, when the CPU is suddenly loaded with tasks, for example, opening 10 different programs in a short span of time, the stock fan will suddenly ramp up, which increases noise level for 5 seconds and then ramp down. This happens from time to time, sudden ramp, sudden ramp down. The curve is not smooth. My speculation is due to Precision Boost and XFR at work. I might be wrong in this, but the CPU algorithm is designed such that it will ramp up a couple of core to its max turbo boost and sometimes beyond the advertised turbo boost. This is precision boost and/or XFR at work. This can cause a sudden spike in temperature, which cause the stock fan to ramp up suddenly as well. And this sudden ramp up / ramp down is very noticeable. Personally I find it quite annoying. I haven't found a way to smoothen the curve yet.

so there ya go for those curious as to how the wraith prism behaves.

P.S. By the way you can control the RGB of the Prism with Asus Aura Sync. Coordinating the RGB LED of the motherboard, CPU cooler and the G.Skill Trident Z ram sticks is pretty awesome. This is my first time actually seeing it in action. If you have an Asus GPU, or RGB LED strip even better!

hav u tried in bios to set cpu/chassis fan curves & adding step up/down time delay to smooth the fan ramping...?

That's what I plan to do, tinker with the fan curve in BIOS see if it helps. I haven't had the time! But we shall see!

Then Just go A320
A320 locks out Overclocking...
