Can try House of Hung/Poh Heng range, if you're not fussy about diamond quality can try to buy from diamond warehouse / loose diamond sale (I checked at Michael Trio's online diamond list) I think you can get 0.4 ct for 1.5k? Then remaining 600 or so for ring setting.

Do note that all the 'online inventory list' are actually diamonds from all around the world where all suppliers have the access to the same list, and i understand that Jann Paul does offer you a lower pricing in the event you found certain online diamond from any other vendor and would like JP to bring it over for you instead at the lower pricing than any other online vendors.:s12:

I havent heard of Jann Paul as I am really a newbie in this. But I seen many rave reviews. How are their prices ? Reasonable or on the expensive side. The most I can afford is 2k SGD (+ring) and I hope to have something with CIA cert.

Probably the cheapest in the whole SG, they offer cheapest super ideal, and also offer cheaper rates for diamonds which are from online inventory (which are used by various dealers around the world) - This is provided they know u already get a quote for a particular diamond from the online inventory, preferably providing them the GIA cert number to check to see if they can counter offer better rate for the same diamond.

However, 2k SGD might probably only get u a 0.3 carat non-ideal cut diamond ring tho, it won't look very nice, but if you and your partner are fine with it, then it's cool.

HCA isnt everything. Its only to eliminate the bad ones first then you need to use the scopes. You can view my old post here when I was finding my diamond, it had a low HCA score but scopes was bad

Spot on, i'll also avoid Venus Tears after viewing their website diamond 'education', they simply only guide u on GIA grading to determine the quality of the diamond and nothing on ASET / IDEAL scopes which they themselves know, that is the only best way to find a high quality diamond.

Based on the above facts, they are definitely not trust-able and i can safely assume they avoid proper education on diamonds for consumer for their own benefit of selling lower quality diamonds and passes it off as top quality diamond.

No offense, but I notice you kind of prefer big diamonds and notice you tend to suggest people to up their carat weight. However I think there are people out there who do not have the same privilege or prefer to spend the same amount of money on more practical usage. After all diamond weight do not equate to wealth

Newbie here. Going to get an engagement ring. Budget 1200-2000 SGD. Any recommendations ? Not very wealthy here. just a normal wage earner.

Its still money and you’re being really generous and sweet! I know from a friend they have 0.32 super ideal at 1700. So if you are able to stretch your budget a little you can get a super ideal with normal setting below 2300 :)

That’s why I said if both parties are fine with it, it’s cool. Don’t get too sensitive on it. These are once in a life time purchases, it’s better to ensure both are on the same page/expectation to avoid unnecessary disappointment. :)

@leeerwin yes, got quoted very similar price for 0.31 at jp last 2 months.. but it will prob exceed your budget by a few hundreds..

otherwise can prob check out house of hung for their ideal range? I am not too sure how much it will cost though.. they are not pushy so you won’t feel that stressed out too! hope it helps :)

Probably have to look at the kind of ring setting he chose bah, single solitaire 18k white gold should be around 600 for setting, but if with side diamonds the setting itself will cost 1100+

Thank you all for the wonderful replies. Got some basic knowledge already. Anyways, would like to find out if the difference of super ideal cut and ideal cut are very distinct ?

Thanks.

To be very honest, in reality, not much. Maybe 10-15% more bling. Online videos appears to be more distinct because you’re viewing a zoomed in diamond.

I’ll usually think that people who opted for Super ideal are the more ‘perfectionist’ kind of person who wouldn’t mind spending extra bucks just for a little bit better. I’ll always suggest ideal if you’re on budget, just make sure get F or G (not any lower) color and VS clarity.

Thank you. I noticed that many people here raved about the super ideal cuts from JP. Do they sell the ideal ones as well ?

And also, does ideal cut diamonds come with GIA cert ?

Yup bascially all diamonds above 0.3 comes with certification, mostly GIA. They do sell Ideal, but it’s under their parent company house of hung which bascially they are sharing the same retail space.

If you’re getting Ideal from JP, pretty much u can be sure that it’s legit ideal cut as their cuts generally are of stricter standard than other stores.

Their Super ideal are highly raved because the cuts are really better than majority of the branded diamonds and much cheaper, personally me myself I’m also a fan of Super ideal haha.

Yup! It’s true! But I suggest to get a plain band with the budget cos it’s about $550 difference..

My unromantic boyfriend brought me to choose the ring myself.. his budget is lower too so I got a plain band and max out the diamond with his budget :/

Hope @leeerwin can find his ideal ring! :)

Thanks, when I was shopping in Malaysia, I was informed to choose diamonds based on 8 heart/arrow cutting.

I not sure if this is the same as super ideal cut/ideal cut ?

8 arrows and hearts is basically an ideal cut which can be easily verified with any H&A scope, however, many places sells 'Ideal' range at 'Super Ideal' prices (only way to identify Super Ideal is to use ASET scope to check the exact performance, which almost all dealers will not provide this verification)
