Agreed.
Low income can't have $550k within 16 years.
That's $34,375 per year of savings or $2864 and that's just take home.
Not to mention, that's if live without food/water/electricity etc...

Anyway, $3k++ ain't low income. :o

He can live with his parents muh. All expense parents pay. Then use almost salary to invest. Last 16 years of regular invest can double or triple the amount put in.

My guess is, he probably gets $70K/annum averaged over the 15 years, and he has very low expenses (little debt/live with parents), so he's able to save about 30-35K/year at least. Multiply that by 15/16 years and you get roughly the figure he brought up.
If I was single and living with parents, I predict my expenses only add up to $1K/month at the most, and I wouldn't feel like I was scrimping and saving. It's not hard to make 1K go a long way.

u can fit that into a 10 $ per day budget if its like 2-3 person sharing the fish or salmon.. unless u one person eat one whole grouper fish for dinner then okay.. nth to say

The same expensive loft is sold much cheaper in Germany.

You are not eating healthy, you are eating expensive, that's it. Healthy food do not have to be expensive. An "expensive" loaf of bread cost $6, nothing about being good.

I also like to travel around and see/feel different things. I will probably stop working someday, travel around the world for awhile before settling down and do something I like.

Saw alot of $10 theory being discussed here.

Personally, i think Live Healthy comes with a price, but also depends on individual. There are some who are willing to spend thousands on Kangen water, eat organic ingredients, patronize DTF as frequent as possible. Is that healthy? Honestly, no one can say that people with such lifestyle will outlive the ordinary people who spend $10 everyday on Cai Png.

I think the key to a successful retirement is more about happiness. As long as you are happy with what you are doing during your own retirement, that is good enough. If you ask me to eat Cai png everyday, i think i am quite ok with that. If I will up lorry for a few years earlier because of that, I think i will graciously accept the fate. At least I don't up lorry miserably, bedridden and become a burden to people around me. Maybe the things i enjoy doing is not as lavish and not as expensive as a lot of others out there. I just appreciate whatever i owned and earned throughout my life and i think that is good enough for me.

But based on the title, Retiring before 40, i think it is still quite a challenge for majority of the people out there. Anyway, i already pass that mark, so i will just see how things go and let nature take its course.

$10 seems quite tough. We need more supplements as we age. Not forgetting prescription medicines.

Actually if you enjoy what you are doing, I think it is okay to not to retire at well, but sadly speaking, most of the jobs nowadays come with high pressure. Pressure to perform or to make something happen.

Eating supplements are BS, it's only when you don't eat healthy thus you need supplements.

Your yesterday meals are quite extreme lah. Can u post a few days more of your meals? I want to follow your diet.

My staple food are mainly fish, beef, chicken, pork. I have fruits in every meal and in between meal. All the stuff can be found in NTUC.

I do not have a diet plan. I learn a lot from H&F in HWZ and I choose to eat those that fits me.

The before yesterday. My meal was

Breakfast: Muesli with rice milk, 2 eggs and apple

Lunch: Tofu with green vegetable and apple

Break : Banana

Dinner: Cod fish with broccoli, stir fry bitter god, corn soup and kiwi

kuehteow has well summarised the attitude towards retirement. I advocate a higher retirement sum as I do not foresee myself adjusting my diet and food that I am accustomed. I prioritize health over money.

It is easy to do this on paper, thinking how life can be so perfect and work seamlessly with the planned budget. Heck, if it is, I bet half of the forumer here can retire before 40s.

100% agree that eating healthy is important.

I prefer to spend a bit more money on healthy food too. I think we cannot totally avoid foods from China, but I try to vary my food purchases, eg: Apples from NZ/Australia rather than China, and I am eating fish as a 'healthier' meat, and I'm prepared to pay more for fish that comes from a reputable source/location. I also like an occasional unagi but I will only buy Japan unagi and avoid the China ones. :s13:

It's not BS entirely lah...its more of a personal preference. If you believe that taking the supplements helps, it helps. As long as you have the right mindset I guess.

58 for me too. That's when my youngest graduates hopefully

Hoping to be financially free by 35.
And after reading the replies here, will continue working since I like my day job and side gigs. If I ever get sick of those, will look for something new without any worry :)
