Any reason to use percentage instead of actual amount? I calculated it based on the actual amount that I will lose if I get that particular phone. And if we use Singtel Combo 3 for people who bought their phone on contract(which % wouldn't work on since Mate 10 is $0), Mate 10 cost $0 and iPhone X 64GB cost $882(64GB), $1,107(256GB) right now. If we trade it in to handphone shop, Mate 10 is worth $370 and iPhone X 64GB is worth $1,100 and $1,300 for 256GB. For Mate 10, you can get back $370 and only $218/$193 for iPhone X. In short, if you want to minimise the $ lost at the expense of thicker bezels, get Mate 10. If you want a good looking phone, get iPhone X, but at the expense of losing more $.

Your analysis is valid.
But many failed to see. They only think what amount can get back but they forgot what amount they had paid.

I meant your original message was based on the dropped value, saying that mate 10 dropped lesser. That's why I said use percentage is better.

If you want to use the amount you get back as comparison, then I agree with your analysis.

If you pay 888 and now is 570, the dropped amount is 318, which is about 35% of the original value you have paid.

iPhone x is 1888, now is 1520, dropped 368 , which is about 19% of the original value.

But of course their roll out time is different, so in my personal view, you have to see how much percentage they have dropped after same amount of time.

For example the dropped value after 3 months of the launch , see which one dropped lower. by comparing the amount directly in this way, then say you will lose lesser, I feel not very appropriate.

If you pay for 199 phone and now price is 150, isn't it more worth it to buy this phone because you only lose 49 ?

Hahaha I change phone every few weeks or so that's why I monitor the actual amount I lose over that period of time. If we compare about %, Android phones will no doubt lose to iPhone. But yeah if you want to minimise the amount lost, cheaper phones will always be better.

Actually it's better than Samsung and Apple if we calculate it based on the actual amount dropped. Mate 10 launched at SRP $888, now street price $570. Amount dropped = $310. iPhone X launched at SRP $1,888, now street price $1,520. Amount dropped $368. Note 8 launched at SRP $1,398, now street price $960. Amount dropped $438.

I agree. Most people don't noticed that they paid more for the phone, which make sense for a higher resale/ trade in value. In actual fact, they are losing more.

The phone drop by a buck, you lose a buck right? Changing it to percentage is just deceiving yourself. The price of an iPhone is more than double of the Mate 10 which makes the percentage smaller.

Anyway, early adopters always pay more.

i believe you are referring to phone space instead of card space. restart your phone and you should get a big chunk of space returned to you, but note it's not all ghe 10gb

you don't buy a bmw and sell it for toyota within a week or month and expect to have a breakeven or leverage from the sale. do a math base on how long (days) probably you will own both phones before doing such a comparison

Wonder when will the 8.1 be released.

I find the auto brightness for mate 10 Pro sucks. It's aways being adjusted to a very low light display
