I can't answer your question with certainty as I have not tried to install ALL the apps in the Google playstore. All I can say is most of those I tried to install managed to get installed. Among those apps I install is taobao, lazada, qoo10, whiteboard, kindle reader, chrome and qq games etc. Quite a lot of them say it is not optimised for your device aka it is phone version.

The only app I tried to install and fail is Aliwangwang (the chat app for taobao).

Oh... that's nice to hear...

I'm using Olive Tree Bible, You Version Bible, Microsoft Office Mobile mainly... hope these work well... some games like Asphalt Extreme, Tetris (EA version), Wordalot, etc...

Found all the apps you listed weren't listed as " Your device is not compatible"... aka should be working fine.

This is really attractive if it comes with a Global ROM... my understanding is that the MiPad is a China-only device right? So no chance of a Global ROM?
Not too sure about this, but Mi pad 1 had global rom, but Mi pad 2 and 3 did not. So I'm gonna have to assume that there's no global rom for Mi pad 4 unless they plan to sell it in India or HK.

Has anyone used this MiPad 4 for typing? I usually take minutes using a tablet. I touch type on my Sony Xperia Z 10.1 inch (since 2014) and it's kind of a bit laggy now... anyone has experience doing touch typing on the MiPad 4? Is it decent? I know 8 inches is a bit small, but I'm looking to downsize. 8 inch tablets can be so much lighter and so much more compact...

swiftkey user, typing / swiping ... like hot knives into butter.

i'd prefer having native global rom also. but since i already got the device.
i've been updating the latest dev rom when released. I've also disable all the native chinese app I dun need via titanium backup.
and since i'm using the backup app, i've pointed the backup folder to the removable SDcard and backups are done whenever there is a change in app.
so, when global rom is release, if it ever will, i can just flash it and restore all my apps.

that said, with the help of the google package installer, everything is working fine. sync, apps ... etc

Hope got Global ROM. I remember not buying the MiPad 1 cos it didn't have removable storage and the higher storage options were quite expensive. Subsequent MiPad 2 & 3 didn't have Global ROM and hence no Playstore by default, which in my experience meant that you couldn't install certain games or apps cos the list of compatible devices weren't in that game profile. But it seems that Xiaomi has worked around this problem since michael_thm doesn't seem to have encountered this issue... but I think Global ROM will be better...

Oh? Really ah... I think I got mixed up... anyway, I use my tablet to store photos which I have many many... takes up many GBs... hence external storage was something attractive... with 64 GB, I think external storage is not so important now... but I'm still wary of paying for a tablet which has no local support from Xiaomi... and there really aren't any good tablets at affordable prices in this size space... only the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 which costs $600 with LTE... faint...
