Went for pre-lasik assessment at Shinagawa today and was told that my cornea thickness is lower than avg at 520microns and my high degree and astig will means that he need to scrap off more. Was told to use their eyedrops for 2 weeks first and come back for another assessment of the thickness when the eye is less dry. But he say only 10% chance that the cornea thickness will increase.’Not sure if i shld try as this means another 2 weeks of spectacles which is a torture..is there anyone with similar case?

Yes same case at shinagawa. Mine was a straight case of direct rejection for lasik. Went to another 2 clinics for checks again to ascertain the conclusion. Then realised there’s other methods for lasik which will scrap off lesser of the cornea for people like us. You may want to research more on the available options.

Sure. First went shinagawa, cornea was too thin, degree too high. Doctor wasn’t keen to do lasik for me and rejected me. Also mentioned I have dry eyes.

Went on to atlas eye centre, however based on the test results my cornea is not too thin, average thickness. Based on them I do not have dry eyes. However, I don’t feel comfortable with the clinic as the lady was extremely pushy, dying for business. Doctor mentioned if he does lasik on me, my remaining cornea thickness will be 290~310mm.

Lastly went to clear vision. His clinic does TRANS PRK lasik (go read on this) which apparently doesn’t do the flap hence lesser cornea will be removed. His method is diff from shinagawa (shinagawa only does the flip procedure) doctor mentioned he will not do lasik for me if it’s the flap method. And also mentioned the remaining cornea thickness should at least be 380mm. (See what the 2nd doctor advised). Not pushy at all, staff did not call up to schedule the dates either.

I am Glad that I went on to verify with more Doctors. I have not done lasik yet as I’m monitoring my eye degree (apparently still increasing)
If by next yr it is stable, I will go for the last doctor.

Hi All,

I am considering Epi-LASIK as well. I was wondering if we are allowed to claim from Medisave? My Degree is pretty high, close to 1000 degree per eye.

In addition, do they usually offer any Student prices?

Thanks!

Hi Clara, Medisave is allowed only on certain conditions.
This link will provide more information of people who are interested and keen in LASIK/laser procedures https://blog.moneysmart.sg/healthcare/lasik-procedures-singapore/

Nice to know and hear that the people at shinagawa rejected you and the onus is on the consumer to do their own research before doing the procedure. You'd be surprised what a simple google search about lasik procedures can tell you and it might just change your mind about doing LASIK :s8:

Thanks for sharing! I am still debating whether to go for the 2nd assessment at Shinagawa 2 weeks later. Have nt been diligently putting the eyedrops and still wearing contacts.. think my eyes will still remain as ‘dry’.

Hi All,

I have been going to Shinagawa for follow after the pre lasik assessment in early July. I was diagnosis with dry eye and was told to go back again after my eye condition improves. Will be heading back this Friday to follow up.

If seem suitable for Lasik, can advise how fast I can schedule the surgery?

Monday: Went to Shinagawa for a first consultation with Dr Lee Sao Bing and the staff did a thorough set of eye assessments. Very friendly and professional team.

Verdict: My eyes were too dry at that time and in order to minimize procedure risk, Dr Lee recommended to use eye drops every 3 hourly until next consultation. He explained that my astigmatism was giving inconsistent angle results from my glasses prescription vs. test results. Told him I wanted to do the surgery on Friday and he went Okay! Increase intensity to every 2 hours.

This doc was downnnnn, I like.

Visited again on Thursday and doc said eyes were well moisturized and results were matching. Green light for surgery on Friday morning!

Continued spamming eye drops till next morning cos man don't want no complicationss. The surgery summarized into simpleton lingo - wait, drop numb drops, wait, suction on eye (painless) to create flap, wait, more drops, laser zap, DONE!

2 hours after when the anesthetic wears out tho..tearing like a bish. Take the nap as the doctor suggests and you'll be fine after. I would highly recommend preparing some sorta protective goggles for the nap and night sleep, instead of using the tape+housefly eye caps they provided - it's quite a hassle.

One blurry thing I didn't completely understand tho: The doc does the correction based on my glasses prescription and not the eye test results, because that is what the "baseline" is and what has been clear for me all these while. Thing is, if I have been wearing the glasses for years, there might be a possibility that my degree has changed and isn't the eye test result a more accurate measure? Maybe I might have misunderstood his explanation. BUT HEY, vision is clear now I can see every thing in HD so ain't no fuss bout it. If anyone ever knows the clarity of this, do share!

Glad to know your LASIK turned out fine.
It would be a bit technical if we were to explain everything in detail so as long as you are happy it is fine :)

For prospective LASIK candidates, please be aware of the side effects and long term effects it might/eventually have. Yes it is clear for now, but it is an irreversible process and although it is low risk and easy procedure, there are still risks/side effects to consider.

yea,i guess they use the specs one is to have buffer "Degree" left. i always believe that in cosmetic treatment like acne scars laser or lasik for eyes, you always trade smth for smth.. For lasik, u trade ur cornea thickness for lower degree eyesight. so the more u want to lower ur eyesight with lasik, the more u have to "burn off" the cornea or smth.

They cant aim for zero degrees i think, thus, have to use ur glasses prescription.
