My Delonghi extract about 15s from single 7g. Normal? Or must tamp harder. Already at finest grind

Need recommendation to upgrade my espresso machine.

I’m using DeLonghi ec680 and Breville smart grinder pro now.

Any espresso machine to recommend? My budget maybe around $1200. Grinder still can use my current one. Think it’s still good enough. My main concern is startup time as I make my coffee every morning before I go to work so I can’t afford 15mins before start pulling.

How is the Gaggia classic at $729?
What about Lelit Victoria but it’s at $1399. https://cowpressocoffee.sg/collections/equipment
Both are single boiler, not recommended if you drink mainly with milk.

Yea I drink milk drinks now. What’s the difference between thermalblock and single boiler? I find my ec680 now is quite ok. Don’t have to wait too long.

Bottomless helps to correct prep work, ie, distribution, tamping, etc

Seeing how the pour starts and end can give clues on equipment and prep work.

Taste wise i am pretty sure there is not much difference compared to single or double portafilter.

can be frustrating as well. U maybe making alot of coffee.
ppl who can taste the difference sure it affects but if U cannot discern the taste in a blind taste test its not worth while.

Thanks. I'll focus on beans for now and maybe save up for a better grinder than BB005. Any suggestions? Mazzer Super Jolly?

Single boiler takes a longer time to heat up to steam milk.
How much longer can be 5-10mins. Does it makes poor steam amd makes it unsuitable for milk base drinks no.
If I can afford the time great.

The BB005 is a very capable home grinder, comparing to a super jolly in a not commercial setting, i dun see the super jolly being superior to it. The mazzer jolly adjustment is very finicky, and not very pleasant to use at all, especially when single dosing.. The only superiority i see is the speed of grinding.

The BB005 however suffers from major retention, but comparing to the super jolly with out mods they are nearly on par.

Well I guess a heat exchanger is the best option for my need as I drink primarily milk based. However I don’t know which ones are affordable and suitable enough for my needs. I like lelit because it has lcc so it can prompt me cos I’m a noob. I was also looking at the lelit Elizabeth but it’s pretty expensive but it stops the shot automatically.

The most important setting is the fineness of your coffee calibrated with your grinder and it can't be automatic. :o

For Strega double shots, do you follow the 18g guideline or do you tend to overdose? I tried overdosing but it seems to trickle down to the point of almost choking. Adjusted the grinder size also about the same.

Means you need to turn more rounds to make it coarser lor. Or use lesser dose.

For dark roast, I use 15g. Lighter roast, 18 to 20g :o

Noted. Will finetune further.

Still getting used to the steam wand. So far not successful as my milk tends to get hot very fast before it becomes creamy enough for latte. Maybe I should manually adjust it?

Adjust what?

I managed to get the milk to turn fully foam for cappuccino so how can that be a problem for a latte which requires much lesser foam?

I think u did not position the wand properly, you need to gradually pull the pitcher down and keep the tip of the wand close to the surface of the milk to introduce air in. :o

BB05 is should be good enough for home. I found it pretty decent. Significant upgrade would be a grinder that is designed for single dosing. HG one, Sette, Kafatek, or even a ceado E37s.

Or more controversially, large flat burr grinders, if you subscribe to the "even grind consistency is better" camp.
e.g. mythos one, EK43, Peak, kafatek flat, LWW EG-43

I've tried the Oscar, i find that it runs very hot, I was trying with an Ethiopian blend and the flowery notes are almost all burnt out.
IIRC the modified version which can run it slightly more stable and cooler is $15xx. But still there's no gauge that tells you the status of your brew or boiler pressure.

I suggest get another model unless your budget is really tight. E61 is imho more forgiving to use.

Its funny, as you start playing with grinders especially for home daily use and single dosing, grind quality takes a step back, the ease of use, adjustment, retention suddenly becomes much more important.

All the whacking and twacking can drive one crazy! haha

The market is sadly lacking a affordable home single dosing grinder. I will be posting the Niche Grinder review as soon as i get my hands on it.
