What kind of authenticity you looking for if you don't have personal friends staying in Japan where you can bunk in with them? Tourists want homestay but all homestay are required to abide rules and regulations and apply for license etc. All these result in "commercialism" lor?

It's always a double edged sword. I find it puzzling that people want homestay yet complains about "commercialism".

Then stay in hotels and save on paying the premium for homestays in the middle of a village where the locals themselves do not stay. Once the tourist buses leave, most of the locals would leave along with them except for the few using their homes as "homestays"

You should say that to those who whines about commercialism in homestays lol. I personally is fine with the "commercialism". If they offer it, I'll take it. Why not?

Anyone can advise best form of transport for 4pax if we land at 9.30pm at KIX and going to universal studios park front hotel?
I checked the bus limo schedule but their last service ends before 9pm.
I was thinking of taking the subway but it seems to take 1.5hr and the hotel check-in ends at 11pm.
Taxi quotes about $200-240.

You chose the most lousiest timing for flight into KIX. SQ622?

Should book SQ618!!

If land on time 9:30, clearing custom + collect luggage maybe 30mins to 1 hour.
You are already looking at 10:00 to 10:30..out of airport.
Taxi will be the only way to hit your check in timing of 11pm.

If out of airport 10:30 then your taxi driver might need to drive like F1

Oh dear, I also booked on this flight for my upcoming March trip.

Indeed arrive 930pm at night at the airport.

How much is the taxi fare from airport to hotel in Shinsaibashi?

If I am planning to travel osaka Kyoto and Tokyo , and my flight is leaving out from Tokyo, shinsaibashi is a good place to stay?

Will be traveling to Osaka and Tokyo for the first time this coming Nov.

Just heard recently on news that got a Typhoon went through the area. Is there a web portal to check the local condition of the mentioned areas?

Hi guys,

I will be staying in Osaka and will be travelling to Kyoto and Nara, and around Osaka, for 5 days.

Is it worthwhile to purchase 5 days Kansai Wide Area JR Train pass?

Should time allow, might drop by Kobe if still got spare day.

Thanks in advance.
Nope, u dun need any passes for these places. Just get their ICOCA card( something like our ezlink)

Can't check in later than 11pm? Even if u inform hotel in advance?
Can like wat the others say, u cant reach before 11pm.
12 might be a more likely estimate. And even then, it is assuming u can clear customs in an hour.
Suggest I change hotel if still possible

For nara, won't the kintetsu nara card be useful?
For Osaka, the eco card.
For Kyoto, subway + tram card for 1 day to visit arashiyama area.

For kintetsu pass, it is good if u are staying in namba area. But if staying in umeda area, there is direct JR train to Nara.

Eco pass depends on where u are going since it is only for subway and not JR. Another pass to consider is the Amazing pass.
Typically for city area, I will just go with suica/ICOCA for the flexibility.

Last train from KIX to Namba is 2355hrs
Still can make it

As for the hotels closing at 11pm for check in, u might want to dbl check with the hotel directly. The info on check in hours can be wrong.

Most hotels 24hrs check in in Namba area.

hi all, i will be going to osaka and kyoto.

are there don quijote, uniqlo and daiso stores in both cities? is there generally any price difference in the items that are sold between the stores in both cities?

reason is i am not sure from which city to get my souvenirs and food like kit kat, chocolates and clothes before coming back to singapore.

these are chain stores. very easy to find them in the cities, just use google maps to search for them.

uniqlo not any cheaper there than singapore, probably they have more varieties though.

What are the main shopping areas for Osaka? So far the ones I know are Namba, Dotonbori stretch and around Osaka station. Any others?
