Hi all

been trying to search on insurance via cardup

I have TM and Aviva term insurance, and also Aviva Mindef

TM there's only 1 bill organiztion, but for Aviva there are 3? which should I use? Thought I read that minded is under health insurance? or is that outdated?

Also read earlier not to cancel GIRO but arrange payment weeks earlier instead? Why so?

Thanks everyone.
The GIRO things should be " do not need to cancel ". It is not "must not cancel" since GIRO setup take time to activate and in case you overlook your bill, there still have giro and your insurance coverage will not lapse.

Write to your insurance provider to seek clarity if in doubt, so you can make the payment accurately.

I wrote in to TM, their reply

We have checked the records and would like to inform you that we require policy that is on monthly payment basis to be on Giro service as there is no premium notice sent to inform on the premium due. Hence, we would not be able to accede to the request to change the payment method. We seek your understanding on this matter.

How do the rest settle their Tm?

ht ***://w ww.grab.com/sg/hitch-club/

Just to share promo for Grab Hitch drivers.

Fyi "HITCHCLUB" and "HITCHCLUB99" are capped at $5000 payment. I used HITCHCLUB99 to pay insurance already.

Have been waiting for a decent promo since the "CNY88" earlier this year.

For new CardUp users:
•Use the promo code “HITCHCLUB” to pay 0% fee (usual: 2.6%) on your 1st car loan or season parking transaction.
•Alternatively, use the promo code “HITCHCLUB99” to pay 0.99% fee (usual: 2.6%) on your 1st transaction of any other payment types.
•More info here. Full T&Cs apply.

For existing CardUp users:
•Click here to receive your promo code, and enjoy 2.3% fee (usual: 2.6%) on unlimited transactions.

Does this work with any BOC card or just BOC Family Card ? Anyone try other BOC card ? Thanks

Family card gives 5% rebate for cardup (max $30) which offsets the 2.6% cardup charges. You have to check if other BOC cards offers rebates higher than the charges to make it worthwhile.

For miles, you would have to how you value your miles. At 1.4mpd, $1000 payment will incur $26 fee, which gives you 1436 miles (minus cut off, for cards like PRVI which only awards for every $5). That gives $0.016+ per mile. Or $0.01868 per mile if you use a 1.2mpd card. Still better than those who will accept the Citibank premier miles annual fee of $192.60 for 10k miles ($0.019 per mile) or the OCBC voyager card of $10k for 500k miles ($0.02 per mile). That is, if you have that many things to spend on. Of course, if you have other cardup discount codes and/or promotions on your credit card for spending, the value you are effectively "purchasing" the miles comes down.

For cashback, it is more straight forward. First you must make sure your card gives cashback for cardup transactions, then your cashback must be more than the cardup fee, otherwise you will need other promotions to tie in to get value out of the transaction.

I find people always ask for "best" without giving any other information. How do we know what is best for you? Each cashback card has its limits on the rebates you can get. BOC family card gives 5% rebate up to $30, or max $600 spending. To someone with a $584 bill, it will be best as after the fee, it adds up to almost $600 spending. But for someone with a $2000 bill, then it is not the best card for the entire sum of money.

I am going to sign up for it. In the website it states we need to pay min 1000 to get 20 bucks rebate. But someone mentioned there is no such min requirement. Anyone can confirm?

Previously no minimum spend to use the code for up to $20 discount, but now need minimum $1000 payment (before the discount) to use the code.
So if your payment is $1000, you finally pay $1006.

For mindef payment, u need to call aviva to get them to manually transfer that amount to offset the mindef premium. Its not automatic.
