Hi guys, really appreciate all your generous advice here. I just bought a Gopro Hero 7 Black, as it's recording on 4k60fps video footage, therefore my current pc can't support in playing & editing the video files. Don't intend to play any gaming at all for my next pc. Purely for normal everyday usage & video editing. I will be using Wondershare Filmora software for my editing works. Appreciate all your kind advice here. Cheers guys!! Sorry to forget input budget, will be below $1k.

Btw, here's my current pc specs, very old model:

MOBO: ASROCK B85 Killer
CPU: i5-4460
Ram: 8GB ddr3
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX760

Do you need a 4k monitor in this case?
Erm, think can leave out the 4k monitor 1st. I am also not sure if that will have any huge impact on my video editing works. Basically, I will be editing for my kids & family video footage.

When you say 'playback' you mean just playing the original files in a media player right? In your case, I wonder if it might not so much be because of the 4K/60p, but the HEVC codec. If you have access to a newer computer running win10, give it a try.

Is my Computer Compatible with HEVC?

Windows

HEVC is supported on Windows 10 computers using the Intel Kaby Lake (or equivalent) processor and newer.

What are the limitations with HEVC on a computer?
Playing Media on Unsupported Operating Systems
If your computer isn’t running Windows 10 / macOS High Sierra or newer, you will not be able to play HEVC files. Quik for desktop will still copy HEVC files to your computer, but they won’t appear in the Quik for desktop Media gallery. Also, third-party apps won’t be able to play HEVC files.

Playing Media on Supported Operating Systems, but Older Computers
While Windows 10 / macOS High Sierra supports HEVC, your computer must use a newer processor to play those files smoothly. Quik for desktop will still copy HEVC files to your computer, but those files may struggle to play back. In general, computers manufactured before 2016 may not handle HEVC files well. See the partial list of supported computers/processors above.

What if I Recorded in an HEVC Setting and Don't Have a Compatible Device?
In the event that you've recorded HEVC video footage and do not have a compatible device to play your recordings, there are a couple of options:

Convert Your HEVC Videos to the H.264 Codec - Using Handbrake, a free, open source application, you can covert your HEVC videos to H.264 (compatible across all devices) with minimal loss in image quality. Please reference How to Convert GoPro HEVC Videos to H.264 Using HandBrake, for step-by-step instructions.
Video/File Hosting via Web - Upload your video to YouTube or another video/file hosting service. Once uploaded, you should be able to play your footage on any device compatible with the website, as you'll be able to utilize their compression. *NOTE: Being as you will be using a webservice to play back your videos, there may be a decrease in image quality simply due to web compression or your connection speed.

Thanks bro, your advice is well taken note. I was able to edit 4k30fps videos on my current settings. But when it came to 4k60fps, my pc cannot tahan & unable to even playback the files smoothly. Will try out your method 1st. Thanks ya.

for kids & family video, just record in 1080p 60fps is good enough.

One thing you can try is open your Task Manager > Performance or Resource Monitor, and see if you can identify which component is the one that is struggling when the playback is choppy. E.g. CPU, Disk, RAM,

Very easy. Prices below from Infinity

Ryzen 5 2600x + MSI B450 Tomahawk = $503
16GB G.Skill TridentZ 3200 CL16 Dual = $239

Total = $1039

Reuse ur GTX 760, use until it dies then buy newer 2nd hand or brand new GPU

Reuse PSU and case as well

Lelong ur i5-4460 + mobo + 8GB DDR3 for $250 to $300 on Carousell

Done under 1K :)

Thanks for your advice Bro, managed to run through the video with task manager opened. Basically the CPU & GPU is stressing. Ram is utilized below 30%.

Ok then to add to my recommendation

- Lelong GTX 760 for $70

-either pick up 2nd hand GTX 1060 6GB for $200 or a brand new RX 580 for less than $300

Again, we see some local retailer markups ;) amazon is selling 500gb 860evo for 101 sgd, can save 50 bucks.

Buy online whenever you can. Just my opinion but local warranty for a good brand SSD is pure useless BS

Also, TS dont need such a powerful processor imo. I would suggest instead a cheaper 2600. A cheap 1050 or 1050 ti or GTX 970 should suffice too for 4k editing.

If TS dont mind greymarket OS keys, win 10 can be had for as low as 15$ too.

Those are not local retailer markups. Those are the SRP set by local distros and reps

And as someone who builds PCs for a living, what i can say is that sh*t happens and has to be dealt with when it does. I have seen SSDs from many brands drop dead before and believe me, you will be thankful for the warranty if it does (although ur data most of the time is pretty much screwed no matter what)

Price difference between 2600 and 2600x is $40 on average locally. For $40 more you get higher base and boost clock, and u also get the Wraith Spire cooler (which is significantly better than the Stealth that the 2600 comes with)

GTX 760 is still a fairly decent card (on par with 1050 or 1050 Ti), but if TS is seeing bottleneck now with it, nothing less than a 1060 6GB or RX 580 will suffice to see improvement. Otherwise he might as well retain the GTX 760 and save his pennies

Local warranty important only if item price is expensive...if you can take the loss then local warranty is irrelevant...I won't go make a trip to local distro to RMA an item which cost less than a $100 unless stay really near them but then that's just me and i understand everyone is different.

Hey, thanks for the advice too. Can my MOBO support the GTX 1060 or RX 580?
