I’d like to get some advice on prescription sunglasses. My wife has just had treatment for retina tears and somehow become very sensitive to light. Also cannot use contact lens like before.
She wants a good pair of light frame sunglasses with prescription tinted lens. Preferably polarized. Her RX is in the range of -5.0. Any brand of lenses to recommend?
Don’t mind travelling to a good shop. Budget around $5-600.
I just make a Zeiss Digital individual.i am thinking of getting a second pair by Shamir lens.anyone can comment on Shamir lens.
That might still be an issue to her as light can still enter from the top and the side.
You might want to consider asking her to get a fitover instead, really light-weight and covers almost all area that is exposed as compared to when wearing a sunglass(side, top of frame exposed). Cost of a fitover is somewhere along 50-200(depending on brand/quality). That is unless she doesnt fancy the outlook. But its for the protection which i believe is more important.
essilor have these xperio lenses whereby its polarised and can choose the color to what you want. however, the frame must be large enough to cover her eyes and give the neccessary protection. that being said, with an rx of 500, a bigger frame means larger and heavier lens. just providing some FIY. of course whichever shop you go to, they will advise the best solution accordingly.
btw, how come she cant use contact lenses? her eye sensitive or too dry?
Hey there, imo once you are wearing a sv individual, depending on your clarity tolerance, not many lenses can actually be on par with it in terms of coating and clarity. You might consider NIKON SEEMAX INFINITE. But it is also pretty costly like your zeiss lens.
Heard there is a new Shamir AI Progressive Lens. Seems good
Thanks for the advice, we have a fitover but they generally feels clumsy and very dated. Can still use it car. Certainly no complaints about protection. Most on the market don’t work well over prescription glasses in terms of fit.
We are looking for a frame plus lens combo that balance between looks and protection. Prepared to take something without full all round protection. Something that can be used for travel and outdoor events without standing out too much like a fitover frame.
Some opticians i enquire said Shamir multi coat do not last.
Based on my wearing experience,Hoya multi-coat still last till 7 years.seiko and Pentax last TIL 2 years plus.
The coating do not last more than one year.i bought 2 pairs.

Thanks. She is recovering so likely do not want to introduce contact lens at this stage due to risk of infection and physical trauma.
Noted on the advice for frame and lens weight. Any shop that you could recommend for Xperio lenses and price range for such lenses. Does the Xperio come in various index? Her RX -5.00 and Astig that is within most stock lens range without needing special orders
Bluewhale lens coating is pure sh it
Is that from Spore? or from somewhere else?
Hi guys, just got my specs frame, looking to make the lenses, looking for transitions that dont scratch easily. My degree is 300, astig abt 50. Any good recommendations? Less expensive options wld be better![]()
Quite dumb of me and my lousy Chinese comprehension but I ended up buying this pair from taobao with blue light but no degree
Any idea where I can get the lens replaced for cheap cause the no degree cost me 30 dollars only
