from the news article point 5, it stated that after april all mastercard cards can be used without registration.
point 8 mentioned that u add the card to portal so that u can track history and get push notifications (this is similar to other countries that we've discussed in this thread).
so i assume that after 4/4, we can just tap any mastercard cards or apple pay for bus/mrt. the portal is optional, just for usage tracking purpose.

Thanks for pointing out man..

on the bright side, got fitbit pay!

EDIT: amended quoted post.

But I am not optimistic judging by how other things got implemented in SG

Do you know if they are accepting Visa on Apple Pay on their trial now, and we can go to ticket office to whitelist our phone/watch, as per what we did for MasterCard previously?

No the ABT trial for mobile devices has sinced closed.
No news for VISA yet

London currently implements it in the same way Singapore will do too. You can register on their portal for tracking, but you can just tap if you want to.

I don’t see why LTA wont implement it like that, after all they aim to have no machines accepting cash at any MRT or bus interchange in the coming years. If you don’t accept cash, then you better allow the tourist to use their credit card without registering on some silly portal lol.

Time will tell

But will they be considered as different cards (even though the underlying MasterCard is the same)? For example if we tap in using Apple Watch, can we tap out using iPhone or the physical MasterCard?

Seems that just as long as you have mastercard on your Apple Pay you can use it. No need register card or device

That should be the way

You’ll have to stick to the same entry method. It’s exactly the same in London.

Hihi, can I ask a quick question on this ABT or SimpleGO. From readup, it seem to be payment of MRT/Buses using mobile devices.

How's it different from NFC sim payment introduce since 2016/2017? Both tap with mobile phone and with its underlying card correct?

NFC SIM payment you need a specialised SIM card along with a phone that can accept it. SimplyGo just uses the NFC function present in most mainstream phones like Apple Pay or Google Pay or Samsung Pay

like what others have mentioned, the same device must be used for both entry and exit points. Even though virtual devices are linked to the same physical card, the devices each will carry an unique card number actually. so if the entry and exit are using different devices, either the exit not captured or at entry there will be 2 captures of the same trip.

If this simplygo is nothing but renaming the failed mobile abt pilot then I doubt the experience will improve much.

I am hoping all devices can be recognised as one, and can be used interchangeably. This way, my physical card will be on standby in my wallet. By default will tap using Apple Watch. If got error, then immediately pull out wallet to tap before other “friendly” commuters behind me start to make noise.

Sorry to say but you probably might want to stick to your wallet then. Really hoping the detection is improved but I don’t think software can fix what seems to be a hardware thing...

It’s just too early to say until they have officially rolled it out in April. I wish the contact time with reader will improve though.

However the possibility of using different devices linked to the same physical card at entry and exit points will be an upfront 0.

For now all we know is that the same device has to be used for the whole trip. Likewise, no transfer rebate if different devices are used on different trips.

Yes, I’m wondering if they’ll remove that limit too...

Physical card has a tap limit as well. For daily commuters, you might find your mastercard physical card getting failed error after you’ve made a thousand taps or more. Like 1024 taps iirc.

Another saying goes that it is 1,024 taps on a single unique reader, which might be possible if you enter or exit from the same MRT/LRT fare gate, or take the same bus trip and use the same reader everyday (most SBST and SMRT buses use the same bus for the same trips on the weekdays). We shall see.
