....By the way, do you think it will increase the HDD life span if it's turned off a few hours a day?

Not necessary, here we have bros running 24x7 as well as schedule on/off.

My DS418 is on 64 hrs/week schedule.

Looking for NAS recommendation at home.

- which NAS model should I choose? Currently looking at DS218J. Any other model?
- hdd brand? Toshiba?

Not going for high end type. Just for casual usage like storing files etc

Go for DS218 for its fast writing speed.
Toshiba 7200rpm HDD is good, no need to spend extra on NAS HDD. I am using them too.

Thanks! I'm planning to use it as a cloud file server, so I need the up-time. But probably can turn it off at night...

Sorry typo. I mean Docker. It is a virtualization container that you can run many things in.

Only the high end + series support docker. Go for value or entry level for casual usage.

Casual usage also can have some fun with Docker mah. Especially for apps like Sonarr or Radarr.

True. However i think ram will be a concern. Running docker on something with higher ram capacity will result in a much better experience

Similar price range has QNAP and Asustor. You may check it out WD too.

DS218play + starhub ONT

Hi friends,
I have connectivity issues. NAS is wired to Google Wifi router, which runs off Port 1 from Huawei ONT.

Login fails 8/10 times. NAS is very sluggish if connected.

Have followed Synology guides for setup. Have called vendors/ISP for help. Unsuccessful.

Anyone can tolong?

Will need more info.
1. Have you got https set up? If so try disabling it.
2. Do you have another router in your network? If you have, try removing it and only have one router.
3. Can you connect your computer and NAS to your router directly via cable and see if the problem persists?
