Xiaomi Aqara Relay Controller and Article

Connection diagram:
HTB1nSdIM4jaK1RjSZFAq6zdLFXaF.jpg

Looks like it works with normal light switches and meant to be installed inside the ceiling and can control 2 lights.

Already supported in zigbee2mqtt. Xiaomi's 2-gang Zigbee version of Shelly 1 relay.
At first I also thought this relay controller is installed at the ceiling but looking at the circuit diagram, it’s not possible. It needs to be install at the switch. Not replacing your current non-smart switch but together with it. This relay controller seems more troublesome. The advantage of this relay is that you can turn off your physical switch and it would still work when you use your app etc

i tink shelly is much smaller in size and supports up to 15A... probably a better choice if u prefer to use this kind of relay...

I don’t need one but just curious on how it is supposed to be use and why....

Using the relay, it will make your existing light switch smart, without having to change the entire switch. The existing light switch function is also not affected, so old folks still can use the traditional way to on/off the light.

New version of Shelly 1 : Shelly 1PM available for sale from 15 April. This version now comes with energy monitoring.
Do you know the physical size? For those without neutral wire at switch, possible to install this Shelly at lighting point right? Mechanical just need to leave as always on.

Dimensions (LxWxH): 41 x 36 x 17 mm. Same as Shelly 1.

I installed the Shelly 1 inside the ceiling LED casing.

Is there a reason why you don't want to do neutral wiring? I see that there are way more products that are compatible if you are able to also wire neutral.

actually i changed my mind. will pull the neutral wire now.

guys, 1 question, if i pull the neutral wire out but i fix a dumb switch first, is this ok? i still cant make up my mind which switch to go for but my ID is going to fix the dumb switches already....

Terminate the neutral wire properly in the switch box and it shouldn't cause any problems.

You can also install a relay like Shelly 1 or Shelly 1PM or Sonoff BASIC at lighting point to turn the dumb switch to a smart one later on.

Sidenote: Sonoff BASIC R3 is coming in May with a DIY mode (REST API).

Shelly 1 without neutral wire

I sent an enquiry to Shelly and was told that they are "working on Shelly 1 which will work without neutral wire", but "not able to provide you an estimated time for that".

Another upcoming product to look out for!

Hi, new to smart home and am moving into my new apartment soon. Just a noob question,

Can all smart switches works with alexa? I am intending to voice control my lightings and found a nice smart switch in taobao. Is the technical aspect of these smart switch compatible with any smart home apps, and thereafter linking to alexa for voice command?

Depends on the app that it uses and compatibility to Alexa or Google home.

What would be the exact wiring diagram for this relay confiugration?

eg My switches have no neutral line, so need to install the Shelly near the light?

Let me try:
Code:
SWITCH SHELLY 1 LIGHT
L-L1 O-I-SW-L-N L-N

SWITCH's L connected to L wire
SWITCH's L1 connected to SHELLY's L and I
LIGHT's L connected to SHELLY's O
SHELLY's N connected to N wire
LIGHT's N connected to SHELLY's N
SHELLY's SW unconnected

Ok, I've been reading through this thread, and I have some idea about the switches. I don't think I will be looking at a Xiaomi solution, I want something that will work with both Alexa and Google, steering towards Alexa at the moment.

I see that Fibaro and Broadlink is a popular choice for light switches, and assuming I can pull both live + neutral, what other brands should I consider for light switches?

I've also been doing similar research, and have been advised that Xiaomi's ecosystem will work with GH/AA but need to go through Home Assistant or OpenHAB.

You would have more options if you have neutral wire at your switches. In my case I don't have neutral wire and according to Aeotec engineer, I can install their Nano Switch at the ceiling light and pair with their WallMote using group association or scene function. Aeotec is pricey, Shelly has similar products but don't have an equivalent to WallMote for my needs.

With zigbee2mqttt and HA, either Tradfri Remote Control -
toggle, arrow left/right click/hold/release, brightness up/down click/hold/release actions or Xiaomi Mijia/Aqara Magic Cube - shake, wakeup, fall, tap, slide, flip180, flip90, rotate_left and rotate_right)
or Xiaomi Mijia Wireless Switch - single, double, triple, quadruple, many, long, long_release click actions, you may create as many 'scenes' as the actions for each of these devices so WallMote not required. Anyway Aeotec is Z-wave, the frequency for SG makes it challenging to buy stuff from Amazon USA for Z-wave.
