Is this build ok?

Hi,

I am planning to build a new PC for 1440p, 144hz gaming. My budget is 3.5k to 5k. As a hardware noob, I have trouble choosing the parts I want.

I had seen online, and these are the parts recommended...

CPU
Intel BX80684I99900K Core i9-9900K Desktop Processor 8 Cores up to 5.0 GHz

GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (I have trouble deciding which specific brand to get)

I am currently having trouble deciding if this build worth it, or is there any other hardware which I need to modify? Example, do I need a NVME drive instead of SATA? Or should I consider another SSD for secondary storage?

Moreover, is there any recommendation for the brand of the RTX 2080Ti and NVME drive?

I think you need to ascertain what you are going to use the desktop for and what is the budget.

Taking a high end recommendation out of the PC gaming page may ot be the best way to go about buying a PC. And in all honesty, whatever amount you are going to pay for this spec, you can expect the value to plunge in another few months.

I did my build at the end of March (see my profile for specs) and it did cost a fair bit but I feel worth it. Is there any specific reason why your wanting an Intel CPU over an AMD?

Going for intel u wait for 11th gen when intel comes out from 22nm build. Skip the 10th gen as well.

Have you actually checked the prices in Singapore for your parts list and able to accept it? note that pcgamer.com is based in USD and you cannot just x1.4 for sg pricing.

Almost all are top tier stuffs. You can't go wrong with gaming or work with this setup.

Secondary storage: If you want a large backup data drive, then SATA is OK. If you want nvme, then Sabrent and adata have the more affordable options.

I am going to use the PC for 1440p 144hz gaming. My budget at this moment is between 3.5k to 5k.

I do understand taking a high end recommendation out of the PC gaming page is not the best way to build a PC, therefore I hope I can seek out recommendation over here to twerk the hardware to get a better and suitable build for my purpose.

There is not specific reason though. That was what the website recommended. However, I saw on another website which recommended AMD Ryzen 9 3950X. Is that suitable for my need?

The website had indicated the link and price of the hardware based on Amazon Singapore. However, I had not check other local source for the price.

If you want to buy now, 2080TI is already the top liao. He also cannot recommend you any cards now since Ampere specs are not out. Just take it that Ampere will be more powerful than your current 2080TI for their top tier SKU.

Yes the Ryzen 9 3950X is the top CPU. You will need to tweak some things down to fit a 5K budget,.. look at my profile and just as guidance that cost about 6.5K excluding monitor and peripherals.

Yeah I agree with this too, your build is ready for 4K. I do have similar specs to what you are thinking of building. It is highly recommended to get a high refresh rate monitor like what you mentioned. You will enjoy the horsepower of a 2080Ti, achieving high frame rates matched with high a refresh rate monitor for an absolute buttery smooth gaming experience.

I am currently running most AAA games between 110 - 180 FPS at 1440p@165hz. You're gonna appreciate it a lot especially with First Person Shooter Genres.

On my 4K TV@120Hz, I am getting 80 - 100 FPS and the game play is really smooth still!

For Graphic Card, 2080Ti is the top dog for now, if you are not in a rush till Q3 or Q4, Amphere should be out and will be the next top dog. Any Custom Cooler 2080Ti would be good already, cheapest would prolly be Palit. Balanced in Price and Performance, MSI would be a good option.

For NVMe's & SSDs, Samsung really makes the best and most reliable drives, can't go wrong with them.

Did you get the parts before or after covid-19? And if it's after did you see a big jump in those prices?

Sorry for trashing the thread op, but if you really want top tier just ditch your RAM and go for the smallest CAS latency with at least 3600 MHz (or higher) speed.
