Very true. Thinkorswim is an impressive piece of software code... deep set of robust, sophisticated, real time analytics that are highly customizable. I’m surprised they can put it all in such a lean package with near instant responsiveness. Anyone who is a big chartist/technician will appreciate it. Having live CNBC for free is also a nice perk if you don’t already subscribe on TV... it’s especially entertaining when the market is in free fall, like back in March (provided you are like me and simply find it amusing).

To be honest, the P/L in TOS isn’t really a super strong point IMO. I think they could still improve on that, but it works. But then, I really don’t care about my gain/loss now - maybe 20 years from now.

The P/L matters because u wanna know where your profits come from. This is especially needed if u use options frequently enough.

In IBKR the options and stock of the same company are treated as if they are different counters lol....

U have to manually calculate it in a generated report.

0.5% spread is huge, and its all the more relevant for investors who only buy a couple of times a year. Its pointless if you are saving like $10 commissions on a 50k investment but lose $250 on the FX spread (both are one time costs), you end up paying MORE to invest the same 50k.

The commission free feature only makes sense if you are an active trader, the $250 FX spread hits you once but you make it all back with 25 trades that save $10 each time you trade, but then again active traders tend to favour execution over lowering commissions (ceteris paribus), being front run by HFTs is going to hurt the bottom line more in the long run.

You can change your SGD to USD within FSMOne, which has good rates, transfer them back to your bank account, then using it to fund TD.

I would choose IB if making the decision today. Their forex is wonderful... not denying it. Just lazy to make the switch.

Now that I think about it, my laziness has probably cost me a lot over the years. For example, I have never signed up for one of those bonus interest accounts, been sitting here earning zero! What is wrong with me?
maybe you are too rich.

don't bother such small money la

No, I could do an ACAT transfer of shares and cash between TD and IB. I did the same between E*Trade and TD last time. There is no conversion involved.

Yes, the commissions for IB would be almost free, as I don’t trade much... less than $10 per year. Clearly I could save well more than that on USD conversions.

I think it’s not a matter of if, but when I will make the move.

How do u do transfer of cash between TD and IB?
It can be done directly?

Or need to be from IB to Bank and then to TD?

Wouldn't receiving incoming USD under DBS incur a $10 fee? Outgoing is free under DBS Remit.

TDA’s margin rates quite chor, not a concern to anyone? :s11:

Yep around 10%.

Use IBKR if u wanna leverage or other ways...from local bank, etc

Or juz use futures but bare in mind just 1 share of /ym dow jones futures is around 130k usd now.

On the flipside, i believe TD does not charge any % fees for shorting, unlike IBKR. It is just a question of if there are shares available

How's the executions with TD so far?

Secondly, for those moving to TD, how did you move ur US funds from IB to TD in the cheapest way possible?

I am gonna open dbs multicurrency account, remove usd from ibkr to dbs and send it to TD via dbs overseas remit....no need change currency. Should be do-able.

No incoming wire charges for TD to receive USD. (Edited)
Not sure if ibkr have incoming wire usd charges

really? no tt charges for USD to DBS for MCA?? sounds different from what i heard from the CS on the phone..

some people here said to directly send USD from IBKR to TD...

the only thing stopping me know is having to relearn the interface...to place trades and executions

MCA=multi currency account

for the withdrawal part, still not clear on that...waiting for ppl to report back

but tbh, i think its unlikely that you can only withdraw back to the account that was deposited.

Most likely is you have to authenticate and do more security checks to add another bank account number in

have to check with TD on that

Does it take very long for wire transfer to arrive for USD? Usually thought there needs to be track record to adhere to US anti money laundering rules so will take long time to transfer in and out, here and there
