I'm using Klipsch PM 2.1 version 2, the one with bluetooth connectivity.

I used to own the older version without the bluetooth, that had overheating issues with the subwoofer but it was handsdown the best computer speakers for that price in those days. Talking about more than 15 years ago.

Current version lacks the oomph in the bass, I'm not sure why. Volume is much softer than the older version.

I've been auditioning computer speakers on and off and I can't find anything that beats the ProMedia at this price point.

The amp inside the subwoofer have been change and update.
The first one was THX certified, other than overheating the sub
had crossover issues.

Meaning bass is off thus if you have soundcard that have crossover settings
can use it to correct it.
The current version is a tone down version since it is not THX certified.

Sold mine many years ago for other speaker, not to mention high price.

To give a very general overview, finding speakers 'for computers' in Singapore nowadays, the options are:

1. Get speakers marketed 'at computer users'
Those you see in Challenger, SLS, Harvey Norman etc. Logitech, Edifier, Swans, Creative, Razer, Klipsch, Bose, Audioengine, JBL, Acoustic Energy are the typical brands. Challenger has their Valore house brand, but I think consensus is to avoid.... :s13:
Edifier seems to be the price/performance leader these days. Also our resident sexpert wwenze do promote the brand often. :D
From $10 - $1000 (any 'computer' speakers beyond $1000? Will revise)

2. Get speakers marketed at 'mass home users' (and connect to computer)
Includes speaker systems for TV, soundbars and 'room' speakers like Sonos, and even Ikea (Sonos made). Many, many brands. The speaker connection to the computer may need some thought though (Does the computer/soundcard have Bluetooth? Optical? HDMI?)
From $300 - $3000

3. Get speakers marketed for content creators and audiophiles
Enjoy window shopping at Adelphi, almost all the brands located here. Obviously there's overlap with the 2nd section above since the same brands have different models.
Or Swee Lee, one of the rare retail franchises (in SG) still selling quality speakers (studio monitors) outside of Adelphi.
Or online.
From $300 - $Infinity

4. Secondhand speakers - Carousell / Carou-hell
Amazing place to get speakers (and audio components) at a fraction of their original prices. Lots of good stuff, but lots of shady sellers too. There's always a higher element of risk, so Buyer Beware.
As mentioned by wwenze in earlier replies, can get lemons too from dishonest sellers. Choose 1-3 if you're a low risk-taker....

Buyers, this is not a time to be shy. Make sure you know what to test for, and spend the time to test the speakers, even if you think the seller is glaring at you behind your back. For example, listen to one speaker alone, then both together, run the low frequencies, and the highs, and turn on the volume (within acceptable limits). If seller don't allow, then better to walk away.

Regarding low ballers though: that's just part of the game. There's no rule saying that your 3 year-old speakers are worth 90% of their original price, no matter how 'lightly used' you say they are. So getting angry at a person who asked for way lower than your asking price is just shortening your own lifespan, not worth it. :s13:

From $20 - $Infinity (if you can find good deal :))

And generally speaking too, the effort in buying increases from 1-4.
But doesn't mean the audio quality of the speakers will always increase from 1-3. High-end speakers in category 1 can be pretty good. Can audition speakers in different categories and pricepoints and make a final decision based on your own preference.

hmm. maybe off topic, anyway just to share, hardware are good but often very expensive.
sometimes using software tweaks might help enhance your listening pleasure :)

lets start by saying that I listen mainly to tight bass stuff. (Trance, Jazz, Rock, New Age) and clarity is important too (Vocal tracks, acoustic singing)

Anyway, I must say to have a Aego 2 is one of the best spending that last for a couple of years. but the MDF gave way due to the humid weather.

Back then I was using a vst plugin from audioware db (free back then as beta tester, till now am still using for free lol), a plugin to tune my audio.. is more on gain then to tweak bass and such. It uplift most audio as you can hear on most mp3s.

MP3s have different sampling rates as some are high and some are low, which often you will need to tune up and down the volume knobs.
Even with those EQ build in on some players. it does not sound as good as the vst I had.

Well just an illustration, ever wonder why FM module always sound so good when you have good network or frequency connection?
every tracks they played are always smoothing.. equal peak, good bass, ampere treble and etc.

Well nothing new as they make use of this. https://www.orban.com/optimodfm-8700i (AGC - Audio Gain Controllers) and of course ridiculous to buy one unless you are insane. I ended up using this .vst
my combo .vst includes DB-Dynamic Processor, DB-Multiband Limiter & DB-Master Limiter, the illustration is just the multiband limiter which does most of the job.
http://www.db-audioware.com/

btw this .vst is also good for those streamers with budget microphones.

anyway I have use this .vst plugin on my app player which allows to add this plugin.
I don't have to touch my volume knobs as every track will pass through this AGC which has the auto gain function.

now on the speaker side. as I mentioned. Aego 2 is a rock solid speaker all rounder but sad to say it's MDF gave way. I ended up to use my old Mission 780i Speakers but it needs a amplifier to drive these speakers.

I wanted it simple and got this speaker instead, the Presonus Eris E3.5. It might be on the budget side and might not suit those who like boomy impact. these speakers are for tight bass which suits my taste.

these are the pros
1) small (easy to place)
2) good material
3) able to plug aux to the speakers in the front
4) there are gain controls behind (which I don't use)
5) Dirt Cheap (to me that is)

Bonus pro
1) If you are a gamer who plays lots of first person shooter (like my nephew) you will love it.. you can just hear where the enemies are coming from and to nail them before you get nailed. well at least my nephew kept using my desktop instead of his lol.

Cons
1) might not be suitable if you going for super BASS like techno tracks.
2) does not have Bluetooth (will be nice to have)
3) you need shock absorb stand to uplift the music.. (am using these)

Hi all. I need a recommendation for a speaker which is decent for music, some gaming and movies.

I used to own a ATP3 which I loved, and it last me for 18+ years and is still working. Last July, I bought a Logitech z623 on sale for like $135, with hope that it will be an upgrade. Unfortunately, z623 is not better than ATP3.

The clarity of the ATP3 is superior to z623. There are many songs that used to sound impactful vocally, and has the clarity instrumentals wise with ATP3 that doesn't sound good at all with z623. I listen to all genres, but a good example will be Celine Dion's To Love You More, which is great on ATP3 but muffled and dull on z623. I have given my ATP3 away to one of my family who is enjoying it.

So, I am currently looking for a speaker that allows me to enjoy music once again, on par or better than ATP3, and can be used for gaming/movies as well. Budget will be $100+ to $250. I have heard of swans m10, creative t40, and some edifier speakers.

Any recommendation from people who own these or others speakers which is decent enough for music?

still prefers passive speakers for critical listening but will b quite a hassle for desktop due to the various cables/components pairing and much $ involved. for gaming and leisure listening, active speakers much easier. besides, sounding good or not is pretty personal.

recently changed to Edifier s2000mkiii from my 10yr-old Swans M50W. maybe u can consider the Edifier r2000db or Swans mk200, Edifier S2000pro or R350DB if budget can increase a lil, that shd fit the bill. shipping from Taobao much cheaper but risk the warranty. feels that most chinese speakers these days are much value-for-buck for the sound, but design wise gg discount a lil.

I don't know about the crossover issues, but it's true that the amp often burnt out.

I repaired mine at least thrice over 15 years and the woofer cone wore out twice as well.

My thoughts:
The computer desk is often not a condusive place to listen to speakers, due to proximity between our head and monitor.

Unless your PC setup audio play back plays thru home hifi. I'd rather spend more money on a head-fi setup, and buy cheaper ok computer desk speakers, just to use it for general listening, ie youtube watching or just playing background music

by the way, where to you guys find PC monitor speaker stands to life your speakers from your desktop?
