Hi guys, my old Logitech z625's bass suddenly died, although the 2 speaker still works, the sound is horrible now without the bass..

I'm a pretty regular PC user, youtube, casual music, gaming, movies.
MSI onboard sound chip, no sound card.

While I'm ok to spend $400 for a Klipsch Promedia 2.1, or some other models along that line, I wonder if that would really make a big different? i.e. is it worth it without a sound card?

Some users mentioned 2.0 bookshelf speaker, but I have never use 1 before so not sure if the bass is good enough?

Z625 is cheap enough now at $189 before any discount and I do have the thoughts of just buying the same to replace..

Any advice?

Beware, lots of Counterfeit from China.

The Aego M seems to have positive reviews, where is a good place to get it? A very quick search on shopee only see 1 seller @ $299.

Locally only place is Audio basic at Adelphi but price is $4XX.

Really depends on you but my suggestion:

- Ask for quote to repair/replace the sub.
Should be either Ban Leong or kaira technologies
- Get a new Z625

2.0 and 2.1 difference is in the bass, with sub the bass and low frequency
are much deeper.
If you ask me Z625 despite not the popular choice here but will be suffice.

Z625 bass is much stronger than Aego M and Klipsch Promedia.
Downside of Z625 is it's mids while Aego M and Klispch Promedia
are much better in mids.

Z625 have more connection than others, optical, 3.5mm, RCA so if you have game console can connect all at once.
Whether you need sound card, most onboard sound these days are decent enough.

Since $$ is not a problem, get Klipsch Promedia 2.1.

As for 2.0 bookshelf speakers, the bass will definitely lose to the Logitech Z625. If you want wall vibrating bass, definitely need a subwoofer.

If you are happy with what Logitech Z625 is giving you, can just buy back the same one.

Can you let us know how long did your old Logitech Z625 lasted?

Personally I dislike sub woofer.
The Bass is unnatural and based on sub woofer position.
I prefer the Bass from Speakers and not from a sub woofer.

It is up to individual preference.

That's why I say that if you want wall vibrating bass, must get a subwoofer.

I think i need to go check out how the bookshelf speaker sounds, Challenger have some?

My Z625 definitely lasted at least 5 years, maybe 7? I don't quite remember.

Trivia: Two * 5-inch woofers have more surface area than a single 6.5-inch woofer

Z625 has been sounding fine to me, but when buy new one always wanted to find something better mah..

Honestly not hard to find something better than z625. The only redeeming feature is the bass which is comparable to a pair of good bookshelf speakers. A pair of good bookshelf speakers with naturally good bass extended with extra EQ. We're talking a really good 5.25-inch or a typical 6-inch.

Meaning it is not difficult for a pair of proper bookshelves to completely outclass z625, but at the same time z625 deserves compliment for being able to do that bass at that price range.

Treble is complete garbage tho.

Direct comparison of z623 and R2000DB makes me feel sorry for those who bought z623 for $269. Even with the moar basssss, the overall presentation is not even close.

You can try using the z625 as a standalone sub. Throw the satellite with volume control into a corner or something.

And now with JBL 305P selling at $350 per pair, all speakers have a tough battle to fight.

Thanks for all the replies.

So I don't mind giving bookshelf speaker a try, and gaining some leg space back from under the table (but losing something to put my legs on).

Consolidating the few recommendations up there, these are the models to go for, in order of low to high price, using shopee as a price guide:

Edifier R1280DB
$134 - https://shopee.sg/Edifier-R1280DB-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Multimedia-Speaker-i.250138993.3642982912

Edifier R2000db
$245 - https://shopee.sg/Edifier-R2000DB-B...-120w-(2years-Warranty)-i.37739519.6742284075

JBL 305P MkII

That is actually first version which is surprising it is still sold here.
Now is Aego 3, there are two version.

Standard with separate speakers (Wider sound stage)

Soundbar (Narrow sound stage)

Difference between the side is the sound stage, the separate speaker configuration.
You can place the speaker further apart for wider sound stage.

If you want to try 2.0 speaker either R1280DB or R2000db.
Take note you will a bigger space on your table.
If you ask what speaker as well as soundcard
I am using, you can see in my signature ->.

I have played with many speakers, sold many until I end up
with Logitech Z523. :s13:
Why? Z523 mids are not that good but the bass isn't so overpowering
like the Z623/Z625.

However Logitech Z523 is discontinued so unlikely to find this speaker.
Causal gamer here, don't really have much time since my work are staggered hours so Z523 will do fine for me.

Don’t pay $245 for r2000db, wait for sales. I only paid $189.

Went to challenger to see just now, only Klipsch Promedia 2.1 available for review. R1280 also there but no display to review.
$399 for the pro media, $379 if member of value club.
