Give u 2k if u cook and pack lunch and dinner, use $5 Indian soap(6 soaps) to bath, Prepaid card and mrt card. Switch on fan to slp. Actually can save up.

If u spend on resturant every meal and on aircon, highest tier hp plan, taking grab daily. Give u 20k monthly also not enough

The lowest paid job such as cleaner should paid at least $8 per hour. 8 hours a day $72 and per month $1500

Job such as rubbish collector where most sg ppl won't do have to pay even more. At least 4 to 5k per month.

Personally I want to up the sg poverty line to $2k or $11.30 per hour . No point apply MW when ppl still can’t have basic living with $1.5k.

Min wage mean costs will go up for everyone

E.g min wage set at $1.8k

The cleaner auntie who used to earn $900 will have her pay increase 100%... leaving her employer to increase service fees for vendors... implication is we have to pay more for sc&c and foodcourt prices etc

Same thing for traditional low wage workers... prices increase accordingly and inflation rises rapidly

Should set selective minimum wage, only those jobs that have a high % of local elderly will be eligible. 1.2k should be enough for elderly monthly expenses if live alone and exclude medical bills. Then must reserve a certain amount of slots of each of these jobs for local elderly before able to employ pr

Progressive Wage Model vs Minimum Wage: which is better?

One arguement I am hearing (not from me but from a friend)

-it will actually result in companies hiring foreigners instead

- companies close down due to increased margins, resulting in higher unemployment for locals

- will result in lower quality work

Cost can be offset by lowering rental and do away with middleman who earn a profit by getting cheap labor to that company

Progressive wage model works if we can control the foreign workers in the applicable sectors.

Currently PWM only applies to Security, Landscaping and Cleaning services. So really only a small group benefits.
