I recieved an autmatic currency conversion not allowed notification on my interactive brokers selling usd.sgd and my sing dollar cash amount went to 1 dollar. Is it for expense ratio? I holding VUSD, IWDA VWRD? Do i need to convert more to sgd to pay expenese ratio?

Thanks for the insights guys! Looks like I'll still be sticking with IBKR LLC/no TS Global for awhile!

SIPC back-stop did not help many clients who use MF Global and there were many who failed to recover their cash in MF Global's accounts!

Yes, brokers in Singapore are supposed to ring fence client assets. Presumably they do. What happens in the unlikely event they don't? What happens if the broker commits fraud, for example? Well, maybe somebody goes to prison (maybe), but....

The SIPC backstops these and other "evil broker" scenarios. Unfortunately, Singapore doesn't have anything like the SIPC.

Not true.
Firstly, when you use local brokers to buy SG stocks, custodian is CDP, no the local brokers.
Secondly when you use local brokers, you don't park your money (not even a single cent) in the local brokers' custodian accounts (this is the opposite when you use IB US or IB SG).

Yes.

but it applies to all other local brokers too, (including bank brokers), if they go bankrupt... u are reduced to dust too.

Your assertion is 100% false. All MF Global account holders made full, fair market value recoveries -- every penny, including in Singapore.

These facts are incredibly easy to check. Since you continue repeating this falsehood, notwithstanding the facts pointed out to you, I can only conclude you're lying. Knock it off.

Here is a suggestion.
Perhaps you might be better off replacing it with sxlp and sxlv or the world version of it ?

Especially since you ain’t gonna get much buffer from bonds as it used to hence look into bond like equities such as sxlp or xdws.

but these are a case by case goodwill basis

there is no absolute guarantee that all brokers who fail will be able to do that

"including in Singapore"

SIPC do not cover IB SG accounts for eg so its always best to avoid putting yourself in that situation

I wonder when it come a day when BBCWatcher and Shiny Things start to move on with their life or this forum close down, will IWDA and EIMI drop

As I believe many people here are following the standard recommendation

Well for sure there will be a time when they move on.

But it will have strictly zero impact on the price of IWDA and EIMI. We readers of ST and BBCW are but a droplet in the ocean.

Well, surely they will say "thank you all very much for pushing up the price by so much so that we retire so much richer and earlier since can cash out much earlier" in their heart isn't it? :s13:

Why can't you just continue to invest in STI and any other index?

If performance is the sole basis for your stocks selection criteria, then I suggest you dump all your capital into tech stocks. Because tech stocks are HOT now and in the past few years.

If you prefer diversification, then you should split into a few country, region or world ETFs.

And the alternative would be us pumping your China stocks and you selling?

Total global stock market capitalization is very roughly US$90 trillion, and IWDA probably covers about 80% of that, or about US$72 trillion. Nothing any poster writes in this forum will have any material impact on such numbers.

There’s nothing nefarious in suggestions to do some long-term, well diversified index fund investing.
