Its a well known fact that Samsung always give out freebies to entice buyer so as to gain more market shares, and then their phone price drop like just within a month or so.
It's a hard fact that apple device retain value as compare to Samsung and apple never ever give free stuff (except for back to school promo).
I am a Samsung user since S2 era, if anyone feel I am bias to Apple.

I think Samsung phone effective sell price is always lower than their published price. It is their marketing strategy. During launch, they give free gifts. One or two months later, they take away freebies and "reduce" price by the equivalent freebies value.
I think trade-in value is overplayed for iphone. A sample of phone came out at the same time
X - $300. Note8 - $200
XS Max $550 Note9 - $350
11 pro max $600 Note10+ - $550
Just for a little difference in trade-in price, you are paying in range $600-$700 more for iphone vs samsung flagship (say 12promax vs Note20 ultra) here in Singapore on contract or full price. But in other countries, both these phones are probably selling in the same price range.
